NASCAR is the acronym for the National Association for Stock Car and Auto Racing. It is the governing body for the three most important stock car racing series in America. NASCAR series are divided into three categories - the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR conducts races on tracks like Speedways, Superspeedways, Short Tracks, and Road Courses. These tracks form the NASCAR schedule wherein drivers compete to claim the NASCAR championship title. NASCAR racing is divided into two stages: the Regular season and the Chase for the Cup Series.

The NASCAR Regular season is a 26-race season scheduled to select the top 16 drivers for the Chase for Cup Series. These drivers are selected from the race winners throughout the first 26 races of the season. The last 10 races of the season, known as the Playoffs, decide the NASCAR Drivers Champion. The Playoffs follow a Round-of-four schedule, wherein the bottom four drivers are eliminated after every three races until the Championship race between the top four drivers.

NASCAR Cup Series Drivers are specially trained drivers who earn a NASCAR license to race at the top level of stock car racing. NASCAR drivers race cars which are derived from production cars. The cars, manufactured by Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota, produce nearly 600-650 HP of power, with speeds reaching more than 160 mph. NASCAR drivers progress the stock car racing ladder starting from a young age and competing in karting, Legends Series, and the K&N Pro Series before they get a chance in the top-three NASCAR series.

Note: The NASCAR Chase for Cup Series is known as the NASCAR Playoffs. In case there are less than 16 winners throughout the season, the top driver in the Regular season standings is selected from the remaining non-race winning driver. The regular season champion progresses to the NASCAR Playoffs regardless of a race win.
