He also won the Governor’s Cup 200 late model race at New Smyrna Speedway in the same year. He led every lap of the event. Erik Jones was the first driver not born in Florida to achieve the feat in over 30 years.

In December 2012, Erik Jones won the prestigious Snowball Derby. He raced against Kyle Busch and held him off to win the race. He won the race again next year after Chase Elliott was disqualified after post-race inspections. Jones made his NASCAR debut in 2013 with Kyle Busch Motorsports.
