Alexandre Song: A Brief Biography

Alex Song (Alexandre Dimitri Song Billong) is a Cameroonian footballer from Douala, Cameroon who plays as a central or defensive midfielder, and also plas as a central defender for FC Barcelona and the Cameroon national team. People know him by his popular name \'Alex Song\' and his colourful hair dye. Song belongs to a very big family, he is one of 28 children and has 17 sisters and 10 brothers. He was married at the age of eighteen and now is father to two children. He started his career with the Bastia youth team in season 2003-04 and and became a part of the first team the following season with 31 appearances. Noted for his high versatility, he was selected as part of the France U16 football team. During his time at Bastia, he attracted attention from numerous clubs, including Inter, Juventus, Manchester United, Lyon, and Middlesbrough, but eventually was loaned off to Bastia. During his time at Bastia, Song made a total of 32 league appearances. Finally, he signed a four-year contract with Arsenal in 2006 and moved to Charlton Athletic on a loan deal on January 30th 2007. He scored his first goal for Arsenal against Liverpool in Arsenal\'s 6–3 win at Anfield in the League Cup on 9 January 2007. Alex Song played for Cameroon in 2010 FIFA World Cup and was called-up for the Africa Cup of Nations, 2010. Recently, Alex Song signed a five-year contract with FC Barcelona on August 20th, 2012.
