Pablo Martin Paez Gavira, better known as Gavi, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for the Spain national team and La Liga side FC Barcelona. Gavi is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players in Spanish football and is expected to have a bright future in the sport.



Early Life

Gavi was born on September 23, 2004, in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Spain. He joined the youth academy of FC Barcelona, La Masia, when he was just six years old. He progressed through the ranks of the academy and caught the attention of the coaching staff with his impressive performances.


He was considered one of the top prospects in Barcelona's youth system, and he played for various youth teams, including the Cadete A, Juvenil B, and Juvenil A teams. He was also part of the Barca B team for the 2020-21 season, where he played in the Segunda Division B.



Club Career

In the 2020-21 season, Gavi was part of the Barca B team, which plays in the Segunda Division B, the third tier of Spanish football. He made 20 appearances for the team, scoring two goals and providing four assists. His performances caught the attention of the coaching staff, and he was called up to the first team for the pre-season tour of Germany in July 2021.


Gavi impressed in the pre-season matches and was included in the first-team squad for the 2021-22 season. He made his first-team debut on August 29, 2021, in the La Liga match against Getafe CF, where he came on as a substitute in the second half. He quickly became a regular in the first team and has since made several appearances in the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League.


His form elevated in the 2022-23 season. On January 15, 2023, Gavi scored a goal and provided two assists to be named man of the match in a 3–1 victory over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España Final, winning his first trophy for Barcelona.


To date, he has made over 80 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring four goals.



International Career

In 2021, Gavi was part of the Spain Under-18 team that won the Val-de-Marne Tournament in France. He played a crucial role in the team's success, providing assists and scoring goals in the tournament.


He made his debut for the senior team on October 6, 2021, in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy, which Spain won. He thus became the youngest player to ever represent Spain at senior level at the age of 17. They would fail to win the tournament, losing the final to France in a 2-1 defeat.


On June 5, 2022, he scored his first senior goal in the Nations League against the Czech Republic, becoming Spain’s youngest-ever goal-scorer. To date, he has made over 18 appearances, scoring three goals.
