Guanyu Zhou: A Brief Biography

Junior career

Guanyu Zhou started early in European racing with his first attempt at the Italian F4 championship in 2014 and 2015. The driver graduated to F3 in 2016 and spent three years in the series with his performances getting better every season. His 2018 season was the best where he finished the season 8th in the championship with 2 wins and 3 pole positions to his name.

His run in F2 lasted three years as well. In 2019 Zhou was 7th in the championship as Nyck de Vries won the title. In 2020, he was 6th when Mick Schumacher was the champion, and in 2021 he finished 3rd in the championship when Oscar Piastri won the title.

Formula 1 career

Alfa Romeo(2022-Present)

Guanyu Zhou's F2 performances (and a few F1 sponsors) helped him secure a promotion to Alfa Romeo. He became the first Chinese driver to score points in his first season and came across as a driver who was slowly learning his craft and making substantial improvements. He ended first season with the team showing decent progress and got an extension with the team for 2023 alongside veteran teammate Valtteri Bottas.

In 2023, Alfa Romeo's car took a turn for the worse. The car has become a bit unpredictable and has not been a challenger for points on most occasions. With young Theo Pourchaire impressing in Formula 2 and leading the championship, Zhou's future hangs in the balance as the team is yet to sign an extension with him.
