Mick Schumacher is the son of Formula One legend, a 7-time World Champion, Michael Schumacher, and Western riding European Champion Corinna Schumacher. He is the nephew of Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula One racing driver and a cousin of David Schumacher who is a racing driver as well. Schumacher was born and grew up in Switzerland. On 29 December 2013, Mick was skiing with his father Michael Schumacher when Michael suffered life-threatening brain injuries.
In March 2017, Mick spoke about his father first time publicly and described him as his idol and role model.
Mick Schumacher began his Karting career at the age of 8 and was able to graduate to ADAC Formula 4 by 2014. In 2016, Schumacher finished runner-up at the Formula 4 championships and graduated to Formula 3 European championship. He made his first appearance in Formula 3 series by racing in the MRF challenge where he finished 3rd in the championship.
In 2017 Schumacher made his debut in the Formula 3 European Championship. This was the first time the world took notice of “Michael Schumacher’s Son”. Mick had an underwhelming debut season as he finished the season in 12th with a best result of a 3rd place finish. However, Schumacher turned it around in the second season in the championship. After a slow start and sitting 10th in the championship and 67 points behind after 14 races, Schumacher went on to win 5 consecutive races and clinch the title from Dan Tictum.
After winning the Formula 3 championship, Schumacher graduated to Formula 2 Championship in 2019. In a pattern similar to his run in Formula 3, Schumacher had a poor rookie season in Formula 2 as he finished the 12th in the standings with just 1 win. Schumacher once again turned it around in the 2020 season as he went on to win the title in the last race of the season.
It was during this time that rumors had floated around a potential seat in Formula One for Mick Schumacher, either at Alfa Romeo or at Haas for the 2021 season.
Later in the 2020 season, Haas announced Mick Schumacher as one of the drivers for the team in the 2021 season. Mick Schumacher would team up with fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin in his first season at Haas.
