Jose Altuve was born in Maracay, Aragua, Venezuela on May 6, 1990. Altuve has a younger brother who is named Carlos Jr. Jose was born to Lastenia Linares and Carlos. He grew up in Venezuela and his parents still stay there. The Houston Astros held a camp in Maracay, Venezuela when Altuve was only sixteen years old. He was not allowed to participate in the camp for two reasons. It was because there was a suspicion of Altuve lying about his age and also because he was shorter than other players. However, Jose presented his birth certificate which ended up clearing the accusation place against him.
