Pokemon GO Fest 2024 is over, but some players are still trying to complete its research tasks. Specifically, the "Dawn of a New Discovery" Special Research worried several players who hadn't caught enough Crabrawler, Ducklett, or Emolga to finish the research before GO Fest ended. Fortunately, Niantic changed the research, leading Redditor Swan0418 to remark,

It appears that after Pokemon GO Fest 2024 concluded, Niantic altered the "Catch 7 Emolga," "Catch 7 Ducklett," and "Catch 7 Crabrawler" Special Research tasks into "Catch 10 different species of Pokemon," allowing trainers to finish the research at an easier clip. Since Crabrawler, Ducklett, and Emolga are far from common outside of events, it seems Niantic did the player base a favor.

Given the amount of criticism Niantic has garnered in recent months and years, many fans were surprised to see the Pokemon GO developers give the community a hand with completing their GO Fest 2024 research. However, some trainers pointed out that the change may have been made due to a bug that caused the chosen Pokemon between Ducklett/Crabrawler/Emolga not to spawn normally.

Regardless of whether the change was due to a bug or an intentional choice after the GO Fest celebrations, fans seemed very welcoming of the change as a whole. Some still believed other Special Research questlines should get the same attention even if they weren't recent, but many Pokemon GO fans will take the silver linings when they can get them.

Niantic's change to Pokemon GO's "The Dawn of a New Discovery" research is a positive regardless of cause

GO Fest 2024's "The Dawn of a New Discovery" Special Research, while free to complete without a ticket, was a major component in the event for several players. It not only provided plenty of standard rewards but also offered the opportunity to catch the legendary Pokemon Cosmog, which can in turn evolve into Solgaleo and Lunala, both of which can fuse with the creature Necrozma.

Since Necrozma and its fused Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane forms were the major draw of GO Fest for many, it's good that Niantic adjusted the "Catch 7 Ducklett/Emolga/Crabrawler" research task and replaced it with a very simple "Catch 10 different species of Pokemon" that can easily be finished anytime Whether the decision was made to fix a bug or assuage player concerns is ultimately irrelevant.

The fact of the matter is despite the criticisms Niantic has received, this particular decision is a small win for the player base who couldn't complete the free Special Research during GO Fest 2024. Niantic's mobile title may still have its problems, but making research that players want to complete easier is a positive for fans going forward, allowing them to still get the full GO Fest experience.
