5 Possible opponents for John Cena at WrestleMania 31

WWE will officially kickstart their road to WrestleMania by wrapping up the Royal Rumble this month. The scenario that WWE has planned for the ‘big daddy’ of them all will be much clearer once Rumble is concluded but it doesn’t take away the freedom of prediction from the WWE fans.Basically, the company will be looking for matchmaking for all their top names and one name in particular that needs to be handled properly is John Cena.Despite being the most polarizing name on the current roster, Cena will be a big draw at WrestleMania. His opponent should be thus picked with some extra care and here is a look at some of the possible options.

#5 Roman Reigns

If this list was made a couple of weeks back, Reigns wouldn’t have made it since he looked destined to headline WrestleMania against Brock Lesnar. But now that Daniel Bryan is back in the picture, it would only be fitting to give Reigns the next best option, which is Cena.

What most people expect from Reigns is to step into Cena’s boots. To be frank, it is a big boot to fill and if Reigns is going to do that, he must battle with someone like Cena himself.

Wrestling purists might not tag this as the best option since both men are a bit short on the wrestling side, but then again, it would easily turn into a great torch passing moment in WrestleMania history.

#4 Seth Rollins

Rollins would be a great opponent for Cena after what went down with him and the Authority. Rollins has now morphed into being a top heel.

Both men have crossed paths multiple times in the past and under such a pay-per-view spotlight, they are bound to excel as well. Since Triple H went on to include Rollins in the Royal Rumble main event for the WWE championship, the path couldn’t be any easier.

One problem however will be choosing a clean winner. If Cena wins the fans are going to riot but if Rollins does, WWE will have themselves a credible heel who slayed the Superman.

#3 Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan and John Cena were two of the biggest babyfaces this time last year and it is only surprising to know that these two didn’t have many pay-per-view matches.

Their only big encounter came back in the 2013 SummerSlam where Bryan was screwed by Triple H in the end. The fans would be dying to see another bout between the two and you cannot find a better stage than WrestleMania, can you?

Bryan’s physical condition is still a big question mark for this to happen, but then again, since he is going to be part of the Royal Rumble, he would hopefully be fit to make it to WrestleMania as well.

#2 Rusev

The Bulgarian Brute recently saw his undefeated reign come to an end at the hands of Roman Reigns. However, it was just a live show and when WWE hits television again, Rusev might be still undefeated.

And who should break that streak? John Cena of course. If WWE lets any other young name do the honor then it would bury Rusev big time while a big name like Cena will help WWE to bypass that problem.

The fans are used to seeing Cena getting wins over young talents at pay-per-views, so even if Rusev loses his undefeated streak, he would gain sympathy from the crowd rather than being projected as weak after losing to a less polarising superstar.

#1 Dean Ambrose

There is a reason why we loved the battles between CM Punk and John Cena. Both men were polar opposites and while Cena played the typical baby face hero, Punk was the cult rebellious anti-hero.

A majority of the superstars on the current roster have no chance of filling Punk’s void but if there is anyone out there, it is Dean Ambrose.

He is unpredictable and gold on the microphone just like Punk. WWE tried to spark a feud between the two some time back but pulled it back suddenly since they felt it deserved a bigger stage. From what we saw earlier, Ambrose and Cena have a good chemistry which could be banked upon.
