Hernandez scored the equaliser in the latter stages of the match to help United earn a point

The first half of the game turned out to be a nightmare for the Red Devils, with what started as an own goal from Johny Evans was followed by former Chelsea player Juan Mata’s volley just 24 seconds after the beginning of the second half. A header from the Brazillian David Luiz gave Chelsea a three-goal lead against the Red Devils in the Stamford Bridge.

What was supposed to turn out as a nightmare for Man United, was revived by two penalties from Howard Webb, both of which were converted by Wayne Rooney. The manager brought in Javier Hernandez in place of Ashley Young and Hernandez did what he does best. He scored a goal in the final minutes of the game to equalise the scores and earn United a hard-fought point.

#3 Juventus vs Manchester United (2-3)

Roy Keane scored the first goal which spurred United’s comeback

Manchester United were playing Juventus in the semi-finals of 1999 Champions League. A late equalizer from Ryan Giggs in the first leg kept their hope of their journey to Camp Nou.

The second leg started poorly as Inzaghi scored a brace in the very first ten minutes of the game and Roy Keane was awarded a yellow card which meant he would miss out on the Champions League final.

Not worried whether he would be able to play the finals or not, Keane showed sheer leadership and pushed the team to put in more efforts. Keane scored the first goal and then a Dwight Yorke diving header and Andy Cole’s strike in the final minutes of the game kept United’s dreams of Treble alive.

#2 Tottenham vs Manchester United (3-5)

Spurs were probably Beckham’s favourite opponent

When you get thrashed 3-0 in the first half of the game, the team would go out with the ideology of not conceding more goals and defending, but Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United was not one of those teams. SAF never taught his boys to play football that way.

Manchester United came out back to the field to win back the game. It was all about not giving up for them. What was ignited rightly in the players mind by Sir Alex was cast immediately as Andy Cole headed a Beckham’s cross in the opening minute of the second half of the game.

That was followed by a goal from Laurent Blanc which immediately pressurised Spurs players. What followed was an equaliser from Ruud Van Nistelrooy and then Juan Sebastian Veron completed the turnaround

At the end, they did what they do the best. A goal in the last few minutes of the game from Beckham destroyed Spurs ruthlessly in White Hart Lane and their hope of three points from the game. Never write Manchester United off.

#1 Manchester United vs Bayern Munich (2-1)

United became the first English team to win an European treble with this win

"Beckham into Sheringham And Solskjaer has won it ! Manchester United have reached the promise-land. Ole Solskjaer ! The two substitutes score 2 goals in stoppage time. and the treble looms large"

It was definitely the biggest and most exciting moment in the history of Manchester United. The Red Devils were facing Bayern Munich in the finals of Champions League 1999 in Camp Nou. Mario Basler placed a low free kick around the United wall to score the first goal within the first six minutes.

Without a doubt, Man United started the game on the back foot they were missing their key midfielders, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, both through suspension. Things were not going right and as a result David Beckham was brought on late in the midfield and Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were brought on to provide more pace in the attack.

The three substitutes combined to score two goals in the injury time for United and helped the club complete an unprecedented treble.
