With just two weeks before the Transfer window opens once again, here are the top five transfer rumours doing the rounds in today's papers.

#1 Manchester United eyeing double defensive swoop

With Rio Ferdinand and Nemaja Vidic on their way out of United, the Red Devils are looking at 22-year-old Dutch international Bruno Martins Indi and 25-year-old German international Mats Hummels in a double swoop, to replace the outgoing duo.

Feyenoord’s Martins Indi, who has been a key figure in Holland’s progress to the World Cup already has 13 caps to his name. The Dutchman’s stock is well and truly on the rise and with Louis Van Gaal to be confirmed as United’s manager this week, he might well be on his way to Old Trafford.

Along with him, a key component of Borussia Dortmund’s back-to-back Bundesliga winning squad, Hummels is also set to join him at Old Trafford. With Luke Shaw already lined up to replace Patrice Evra, the duo look set to star in a new look back four filled with youth and experience.

#2 Edinson Cavani to replace Luis Suarez at Anfield?

With Real Madrid president Florentino Perez making Luis Suarez his number one transfer priority, Liverpool are looking at life without their talismanic Uruguayan striker. With Madrid set to offer another world record fee, it looks to be an offer that would be difficult to refuse. So Liverpool are keen to replace one goal hungry Uruguayan with another as reports of a club record £60m bid for PSG forward Edinson Cavani is doing the rounds.

Although Brendan Rodgers would like to keep the club’s highest paid player, the chances are that he is set to leave, to be replaced by the increasingly frustrated Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan is reportedly unhappy at playing second fiddle to Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The forward, who has scored 25 goals this season could well be on his way to Anfield as PSG are looking to making a profit on the player they signed last season and adhere to the FFP guidelines.

#3 Karim Benzema poised for Emirates switch?

After several previous failed attempts, Arsenal are set to renew their interest in Karim Benzema following Real Madrid’s Champions League final against their local rivals Atletico. The 26-year-old only has one year left on his contract and could well leave for free next summer. So, Real Madrid are looking to offload the striker to Arsenal if they sign their number one target Luis Suarez.

With Real Madrid unlikely to renew the French striker’s contract, Arsenal are sure that a fee in the region of £30m could well be enough to persuade the Frenchman to come to the Emirates. Although they enquired about the Frenchman last summer, having already sold Gonzalo Higuaín, Real weren’t keen on letting Benzema go, nor was the Frenchman interested.

However, should Madrid fail to offer him a renewed contract, the Frenchman might well be on his way to Arsenal after the World Cup.

#4 Bayern Munich in pole position to sign David Luiz

Just when it looked like out-of-favor Chelsea defender David Luiz was on his way to Barcelona for £32million, his transfer has hit another road black as some sections of the Barcelona staff are still unsure as to whether Luiz is the right man to lead the Blaugrana’s central defence.

But, it is not all bad news for Luiz as rumors that Bayern Munich are poised to launch a £25million bid for the 27-year-old have just emerged. With Bayern Coach Pep Guardiola keen on bringing the Brazilian to the Allianz Arena, this one certainly looks like a done deal, with Luiz also keen to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

However any move will have to wait until after the World Cup as Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari does not want his players distracted by transfer negotiations.

#5 Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign the \'new Steven Gerrard\'

MK Dons’ 18-year-old midfielder Dele Alli has been an integral part of the League One side this season with seven goals and four assists in all competitions. And the England Under-16 international’s days at MK Dons is set to be numbered as Chelsea have joined Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign the talented youngster when the transfer window reopens.

Manager Karl Robinson’s words that Alli is the hottest prospect he’s ever worked with is now coming back to bite him. The youngster who is an attacking midfielder by trade has a style of play similar to Reds legend Steven Gerrard and with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers having a close relationship with Robinson, the ‘new Steven Gerrard’ might have the chance to play with the original one.
