WWE Exteme Rules 2014: 5 talking points from the PPV

After a long hiatus, the WWE universe has finally, I repeat, finally got to witness something seriously special, and something that could well define the way WWEs shaping up for years to come. Its been a while. Hasnt it?It was high time that the creative writers of the company started earning their bread by doing away with crap storylines and that is exactly what they did. Allowing reasonable number of weeks for most plots to develop was a huge success in itself. The Extreme Rules for 2014 was based on absorbing rivalries; and all the efforts paid rich dividends as the show turned out to be an absolute treat, living up to the promise and hype. To start with, WWE has done an excellent job by getting the right superstar(s) to win in the all-important encounters. Now then, what next? Where are we headed? Lets find out:

#1 The Shield: The limelight is yours!

All the hoopla surrounding the tussle between The Shield and the Evolution translated into genuine, hardcore action. While Reigns and Ambrose were top-notch, Seth Rollins earned the limelight with his frenzied approach. The Hounds of Justice have been the companys delight for over a year now. Their popularity has skyrocketed after the babyface turn.

Now that they have defeated the Evolution and expectedly so, it would be quite interesting to see how WWE is plans to go forward with these three men. The Shield shouldnt come apart as the groups tendency to put up spectacular showings should augur well for a couple of months.

There is the possibility, nevertheless, that WWE may cash in on this opportunity to launch Roman Reigns as a full-fledged individual wrestler, in near future.

#2 Bray Wyatt gets his revenge

Coming into the match at Izod Center in East Rutherford, Bray Wyatt had the upper hand with all the mind games he had subjected John Cena to. The company is bound to act in a certain manner when it comes to John Cena. Despite the Wrestlemania triumph, WWE had to show him weak, but not turn heel.

The merchandise sales form a major portion of WWEs income; as a result, the company is forced to make him look a stupid hero who loves being booed by a good section of the WWE Universe. Nonetheless, Bray Wyatt is every inch a villain, and would keep all of us entertained with his savage antics.

The interference made by the little kid, however, made little sense if Cena is to remain the crowds favourite. This rivalry is, seemingly, lacking direction and may have to take a back seat in the next month.

#3 Daniel Bryan: Long live the Champ

Daniel Bryan had to win credibly, no two ways about it. Bryans at the peak of his career and is the most popular superstar in the entire roster. Hence, it made perfect sense for him to retain the title, fair and straight.

If WWE are planning to continue this feud for another month or so, which I think they are (given Kanes pyro after the match), I think thats a bad move. I mean, come on, there is no point in Kane targeting the champion despite being pinned squarely. Image of Kane being an intimidating force has long languished away.

What I would have prefer, still, is a brand new no.1 contender being determined, with whom a prolonged championship feud could be effectuated.I dont want Daniel Bryans championship reign to be stretched too long, either, as overexposure never helps John Cenas the prime example.

#4 Bad News Barrett has some good news

Im glad Barrett is a crucial part of WWEs future. This guy has it in him to earn loads of moneyfor the WWE, if utilized correctly. The Intercontinental Championship needed some relevance and Barretts the right guy to hold this esteemed title. He has connected well with the crowd, which obviously, Big E hasn't.

Ridiculously so, Big E didnt wrestle on television for a while. How on earth was he defending the title against a reinvigorated man whos smashing the heck out of former World Champions? Barretts set for a long title reign and perhaps turn babyface, in the distant future. Although, I must admit, hes better off with his bad news.

#5 Cesaro is set for something big

The triple-threat match was meaningless yet entertaining, to say the least. Cesaro winning it comes as a no brainer. The Swing King will turn babyface is near future and may perhaps contend for the World Championship or the Intercontinental Championship. I don’t see WWE persisting with this feud between Cesaro, Rob Van Dam and Jack Swagger; there is no point in doing so, anyway.
