WWE RAW 18th January 2016 - 5 Promising Developments

Lynch stole the show again tonight

As has been the tradition, WWE gave us a very terrible go-home show which was highlighted just by a few good moments. But Royal Rumble is a PPV strong enough to garner hype on its own. This Rumble will certainly be interesting with The Beast making only his second appearance in the eponymous match. Surprise entrants and the chance of Reigns losing his title is everything to look forward to. Also, the match with the best build up is the women’s contest and tonight they did not disappoint at all. Here are the 5 promising developments from tonight’s episode of Raw

Lynch stole the show again tonight

Up until Becky Lynch’s match with Tamina, Raw was a travesty. Whatever was happening? But once Lynch walked out for a match there was this certain inexplicable feeling that something interesting will happen.

After all WWE hasn’t missed a step with this feud between her and Charlotte. And something interesting did happen after her fun little match. She got a mic and asked for a title shot which she deserves.

Of course, she did not just get it that effortlessly. She taunted Ric Flair and then questioned his legend and accused of Charlotte being nowhere nearly as talented as her father. This promo was fire. It was so entertainingly done in a short time.

Lynch,of course, succeeded in pushing Flair’s ego and got the title match.

#2 Do it with Flair

Excelling at being the heels

There is not much the go-home show for Raw can boast about. So the one silver lining of the entire show deserves to be spoken about twice.

Charlotte did not have as much screen time as Lynch. That entire segment was carried by Lynch’s match and her promo but she and her father were quite the picture ringside. Charlotte plays the heel role to the tee.

Her promo work, miniscule here, was still better executed than any of her face promos and she was adamant in not giving Lynch a chance at fighting her for the title. She was alright with her father doing the talking for her until he agreed for a title match. Charlotte’s indignant expressions made the moment even more entertaining.

#3 One vs All

Lesnar will facing overwhelming odds for the first time in a long time

The Royal Rumble is generally a One vs All situation. Roman Reigns has the most to lose in the every man for himself match.

Brock Lesnar, the anomaly of WWE, graced The Highlight Reel and was interrupted by Roman Reigns who immediately speared him. Lesnar was speared again during the course of the night and in the end he was dominated by the Wyatt Family.

Brock Lesnar, The Beast incarnate, was overwhelmed like never seen before. At Rumble he faces 29 others, it’s going to be interesting for sure.

That was certainly a great way to end a very lukewarm show.

#4 RIP

Francesca is gone, for good

It was such an appalling episode of Raw that a slide is reserved for Xavier Woods’ trombone. Even though Francesca, was a great addition to the New Day stable, Woods had certainly overused it to the point of being intolerable at times.

Chris Jericho decimated it and Raw was all about New Day having a funeral service for their trombone. Well, since it was so overused and helped them win some matches and while it was a great addition in the beginning, it’s days were numbered. Rest in Peace, Francesca.

#5 Rumble by the Numbers

Royal Rumble will always be a PPV for fans to be really excited about

No matter how bad the show was, there is always a certain level of excitement for the Royal Rumble that will withstand the travesty that was this episode. They have been building up the Rumble and singing songs of its history and the production/post- production team always brings out the best to build up for any event.

Also, WWE has given us many terrible go-home shows for PPVs that turned out to surprisingly great.

Over to the Rumble, after Smackdown of course.
