Top 5 strikers on the move

SSC Napoli v S.S. Lazio - Serie A

The transfer window is just a whisker away and all the clubs are looking at their options to bolster their squads with new signings. What is exciting about this transfer window is that there is a mad rush to buy strikers and most of the major clubs are looking to strengthen their attacks.

Let us look at the top 5 strikers who are available this summer:

1. Edinson Cavani

The Uruguay international is said to be the top priority for many managers including Chelsea‘s Jose Mourinho, Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti and City’s Manuel Pellegrini. The Napoli man has been in top form recently, guiding them to a second place finish above AC Milan in the Serie A. The 26-year old scored 36 goals last season and was the highest scorer in Serie A with 29 goals in the league.

Although Napoli are adamant on keeping hold of their striker, he has a £53million buy out clause in his contract which is likely to be activated either by Madrid or Chelsea this summer.

2. Gonzalo Higuain

Real Madrid CF v CA Osasuna - La Liga

At the end of the previous season, Gonzalo Higuain publicly stated his intentions of leaving Real Madrid after spending six seasons in the Spanish capital. The Argentine forward is said to be fed up with his time at the club following a never-ending battle to be in contention for the starting place at the Bernabeu.

Various clubs, including Arsenal, Juventus, PSG and AS Monaco, are interested in the services of the talisman with Arsenal looking almost certain to sign the star player.

The 25-year-old scored 18 goals in 44 appearances, grabbing eight assists in 2012-13 for Madrid.

90% – With both his brother and father (also his agent) have confirmed that they are in advanced talks with Arsenal.

3. Wayne Rooney

Swansea City v Manchester United - Premier League

The England international had reportedly given a verbal transfer request before the end of the previous season to the then United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He had fallen out with Sir Alex after being played in the midfield several times rather than his preferred attacking role, resulting in poor performances. As a result, he slipped down the pecking order after the arrival of free scoring Robin Van Persie from Arsenal.

After his announcement, clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG have shown their interest in the striker. He had a below par last season where he only managed to score 16 goals and had 13 assists in 37 matches for the Red Devils.

This probably will be the most tedious transfer amongst all the rest as, despite Rooney making his intentions clear to leave, he could still end up staying at Old Trafford. Moreover, Rooney has also stated his intentions to stay in England which would make Chelsea and Arsenal the favorites to sign him if he decides to leave, but Real Madrid will be too temping to ignore as well.

Chances of Transfer Taking Place

60% – With Arsenal looking to find a partner for their new to-be striker Higuain, this could be the perfect opportunity to get back at their rivals Man Utd by doing exactly the same thing what they did to the North London club last season by signing Robin Van Persie.

4. Robert Lewandowski

Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Muenchen - DFB Cup Final

Robert Lewandowski formed a wonderful partnership with Mario Gotze and Marco Reus last season for Borussia Dortmund. He helped the German giants reach the finals of the Champions League and finish second in the Bundesliga. But soon after the announcement of Gotze’s departure to Bayern Munich, Lewandowski announced his wish to leave the German outfit for some new challenges, with Bayern his preferred destination.

He found the back of the net a staggering 36 times in 48 games last season, with four against Real Madrid in the Champions league semifinal being the highlight of his season.

Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG are reportedly after the striker.

Chances of Transfer Taking Place

35% – Reportedly having already rejected a bid from the Spanish club, it looks like the players heart is set on German champions. But since Bayern have enough fire power this season, Lewandowski could be forced to join the Bernabeu based outfit if he has already decided to leave the Bundesliga side.

5. Stefan Jovetic

ACF Fiorentina v AS Roma - TIM Cup

The Fiorentina star is being targeted by many clubs for the past few seasons with Arsenal being at the top of that list. The Montenegro international is now ready to part with his current club with Fiorentina ready to cash in on their prized asset. The 23-year old had a fine last season in Serie A, scoring 13 goals in 34 appearances and grabbing 5 assists.

Again this season, Arsenal are said to be interested in the striker with Real Madrid also showing some interest. But no club has him as their top priority this summer with his transfer depending on the outcome of other deals.

Probably his will be the most interesting transfer as he could play for any one of top clubs, considering the fact that everybody cannot get their preferred player.
