The Spain men's national field hockey team has competed in every World Cup since the first edition in 1971. They have won the EuroHockey Nations Championship twice and both the Champions Trophy and Champions Challenge once.
An 8-1 loss at the hands of Australia in the third/fourth place match at the HWL Semi-Final in Johannesburg does not diminish Spain’s progress to qualification for the 2018 Hockey World Cup. Spain. The Red Sticks won four of their five pool matches, including a tight 4-3 win over New Zealand, and were unlucky to lose to Germany in the semi-finals, taking the match to shoot-out.
Having been present at every edition, they have flirted with the medal positions, finishing second on two occasions – 1971 and 1994 – and third in 2006. The following players were named in the selection list for the 2018 World Cup to be held in Bhubaneswar, India.
