Roger Federer's ex-coach Peter Lundgren joins Dominic Stricker's team on a trial period

Roger Federer's former coach Peter Lundgren has joined 20-year-old Dominic Stricker's team on a trial period.

Lundgren is a former tennis player himself who won a total of six titles over the course of his career (three each in singles and doubles). He also reached the final of the men's doubles tournament at the 1988 Australian Open, partnering Jeremy Bates.

After retiring as a player, the Swede took up coaching and helped Marcelo Rios reach the top 10 of the ATP rankings. He later became Roger Federer's coach in 2000 before the two parted ways in 2003. Federer won his first Grand Slam that year at Wimbledon under Lundgren's tutelage.

The Swede then coached Marat Safin and helped him win the 2005 Australian Open. He also coached Stan Wawrinka, Marcos Baghdatis, Grigor Dimitrov and Daniela Hantuchova.

Lundgren has now joined Dominic Stricker's team for a three-week trial period and will be replacing Sven Swinnen.

Dominic Stricker had the good fortune of practicing with Roger Federer back in 2021. He said in an interview with the Australian Open that he learned a lot from that experience. Stricker also revealed that Federer told him to work on his serve.

"It was just great to hit two, three weeks with him. He's one of the greatest, if not the greatest, in this sport. You learn a lot," he said.

"He told me to work a lot on my serve, which I did. Even today, maybe it was not my best service game of … the last few months but I think it helped me in important situations and I'm happy that he told me that."

Stricker is currently ranked 126th in the world. He reached the Round of 16 of four ATP tournaments last season and competed in the Next Gen ATP Finals, reaching the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Jiri Lehecka.

The youngster has mostly competed on the ATP Challenger Tour this season. He notably won the Internazionali di Tennis Citta di in Rovereto, Italy, by beating Giulio Zeppieri in the final.

Stricker also took part in the Australian Open qualifiers and was one win away from the main-draw before losing to Enzo Couacaud.

Roger Federer looks set to be a part of this year's Wimbledon and Laver Cup. The Swiss is currently in talks with the BBC to become a commentator and analyst at the grass-court Major.

Federer recently expressed his intention to be a part of the Laver Cup, which will take place in Vancouver. He reacted to a build-up post for the event by stating:

"Looking forward to seeing everyone in Vancouver."

The former World No. 1 retired at last year's Laver Cup by teaming up with Rafael Nadal for a doubles fixture against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Unfortunately, Federer and Nadal lost 4-6, 7-6 (2) [11-9].
