Riot Games has revealed all the details surrounding the upcoming Agent’s abilities and voice lines along with a gameplay trailer, showcasing their vision of how the new character will fit into the meta. There is some debate about his abilities being too powerful and whether he should be getting a nerf shortly after release.

Let us take all the facts around Harbor and establish potential reasons for certain nerfs that might become necessary.

Harbor’s abilities will shift Valorant’s Controller meta

Harbor has Indian origins, according to Valorant Lore, and happens to be one of many artifact hunters trying to find powerful mystical objects that can reshape the world. This led to him acquiring an ancient artifact that grants him elemental power over water that he can use to shape water and change its rigidity in various situations.

He has two basic abilities, one signature ability and one ultimate ability. All his abilities are concentrated around gaining map control efficiently and pushing enemies back from their positions.

  • High Tide (E) (Signature Ability): Harbor can equip a wall of water in Valorant and fire to send the water forward along the ground. Holding fire enables the player to guide the water in the path of your crosshair, passing through the map and spawning a wall along the water’s path. Alt-Fire, while bending, stops the water early. Players hit by the High Tide will face a 'Slowed' status effect.
  • Cove (Q) (Basic Ability 1): He can equip a sphere of shielding water and fire to throw at a designated location. Alt-Fire to underhand throw to spawn the bubble close. Upon impacting the ground, Cove spawns a water shield that blocks bullets to a certain degree.
  • Cascade (C) (Basic Ability 2): Harbor can equip a wave of water and fire to send the wave rolling forward and through walls. Re-use the ability keybind to stop the wave from moving further. Players hit by the Cascade will face a 'Slowed' status effect.'
  • Reckoning (X) (Ultimate): He can equip the full power of the Artifact. Fire to summon a geyser pool on the ground that slowly creeps forward. Enemy players caught in the area will be hit by successive geyser strikes and face a 'Concussed' status effect.

Do his abilities require a nerf

Harbor can spawn long walls of water that can effectively block the enemy team’s vision. It is a very useful tool and is similar to how Viper functions as a Controller in Valorant.

The key difference is that Harbor can bend his signature ability at will. The wall's length seems much longer than Viper’s poison wall, but it is not very different. The curve that the wall is capable of makes it more flexible in Valorant. The ability seems well-balanced according to the facts that have been released so far.

The Cove is a unique ability in Valorant that grants players a quick and mobile bullet-resistant cover for critical situations. The ability does feel overpowered, as enemies cannot shoot through it before breaking the bullet shielding layer. Riot Games may nerf this ability in terms of the number of bullets required to break the bullet-resistant layer.

Cascade spawns a wall of water in Valorant that can travel through the map, ignoring structural restrictions. It is a wall of water with a considerable height that can block the line of sight of enemies holding angles from high locations on different maps.

The ability can negatively buff players with a “slowed” effect upon contact and merely handicap enemies with a movement penalty, just like Chamber’s Trademark or Sage’s Slow Orb.

Harbor's Ultimate, Reckoning, is a strong control skill which can leave opponents 'Concussed.' The range of this ability in terms of moving forward is not much, but it can cover a massive area almost equivalent to Ascent’s A-Site in a circular range. Enemies are repeatedly concussed like Breach’s stun while in the area of effect that disorients the enemy’s aiming capability.

All of the abilities that Harbor features are area controlled and cannot directly inflict damage on players while being cast or affected by his abilities. The skillset required to master this particular Agent might be higher than what fans are used to for the Controller role.

With a breakdown of his abilities, Harbor does not need immediate balancing upon release. Players should be able to experience the new Agent without any filters or adjustments and decide for themselves if Harbor requires changes or nerfs.

Riot Games is constantly trying to provide the best possible First Person Shooter experience via Valorant. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for more detailed information on the upcoming changes as we follow them closely.
