2015 Battleground: 3 possible angles for the Intercontinental Championship

Ladder Match

Finn BalorRyback’s injury came at the worst possible time for WWE. They were all geared up for Battleground and are now forced to come up with a new angle for the Intercontinental Championship. With the network subscription numbers to be revealed and SummerSlam just around the corner, WWE needs to hit the bull’s eye with whatever they are going to do at the pay-per-view.Ryback is the second consecutive superstar to get injured while being the Intercontinental Champion and breaking the jinx would be crucial. Here is a look at some of the possible angles that WWE could pull off on Sunday at Battleground to solve the Intercontinental title crisis.

#4 Honourable Mention: A Ladder Match

Ladder Match

This is the easiest and exciting way for WWE to escape from the situation. They could just throw in superstars like Big Show, Miz, Dean Ambrose, Neville and some other guys to mix and have the title on the line. Bring in the ladders and have a ladder match, simple as that.

#3 Surprise Replacement for the Triple Threat

Finn Balor

If Ryback was fit, we were destined to see a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at Battleground. WWE is currently one man short for the same. They could just find a replacement and go ahead with the match. Picking someone from the current roster would be obvious.

However, if they have a surprise entrant for the match, it would make the fans happy. Anyone from NXT or a returning Chris Jericho would do the job perfectly. The former would be preferred more since it would be a longer fix to the problem. They could also negotiate a one night deal with Rob Van Dam as he is one of the major players when it comes to Intercontinental championship.

#2 Miz up against Big Show

The Miz

This would end up being a plain boring affair, but it is a possibility that WWE would consider. Now that the champion is out injured, they could have a match between Big Show and Miz to decide who will take over as the new champion. Show and Miz have had numerous matches in the past and there is nothing new they could bring to the table.

Couple it with the negative reactions that Big Show has been attracting and this match is sure to be a chaotic affair for the WWE fans. Despite all the negatives, Miz winning the Intercontinental Championship would be a good idea. He deserves to hold the title for some time and could end up outclassing Seth Rollins as a chicken champion.

#1 Championship Scramble

Championship Scramble would be fun

Remember this match? It is a miracle why WWE doesn’t use this often. The concept here is easy. Two superstars start off the match and every five minutes a new superstar joins in. Each time a superstar scores a pinfall or submission, he becomes the interim champion. The wrestler who scored the last pinfall before the time limit is eventually crowned the champion.

It is a match that is highly dramatic and could have the fans on the edge of their seats. Using a match like this to decide the new intercontinental champion would be a fresh approach compared to the other possibilities. Also, it would allow the WWE to give some pay-per-view time for the superstars who are not booked yet.
