3 Current AEW stars and 2 WWE stars who won championships in WCW

Two of the biggest stars in WCW history are still going strong in rival promotions.
Two of the biggest stars in WCW history are still going strong in rival promotions.

WWE received incredible competition from WCW in the last decade of the 20th century. The primary weekly shows of the two promotions went head to head every Monday, and at times WCW seemed to win the heated rivalry.

However, WWE managed to not only defeat their rivals but acquire them. Since then, WWE has enjoyed a reign over the world of professional wrestling without any major competition. However, the situation has transformed due to AEW.

Although two decades have passed since the fall of WCW, multiple wrestlers who won championships in the promotion are still part of either WWE or AEW.

Here's a list of three current AEW stars and two WWE stars who won championship glory in WCW.

#3. Current AEW and former WWE star Dustin Rhodes

Dustin Rhodes' most memorable gimmick is Goldust. Before his WWE career, he was a promising talent in WCW, where he won the United States, Tag Team, and Six-Man Tag Team Championships.

Dustin Rhodes is still going strong in AEW. He was part of one of the first memorable AEW matches, an emotional and bloody battle against his younger half-brother Cody. Rhodes delivers whenever he is in the ring, moving like a wrestler half his age.

#2. Former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio

With his colorful luchador masks, Rey Mysterio is one of the most marketable faces in WWE. WCW, however, decided to have him shed the mask.

Despite the dubious booking decision to have Rey Mysterio wrestle unmasked, The Ultimate Underdog enjoyed a successful run in WCW, especially in the pioneering Cruiserweight Division.

He won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times. He also managed to win a Cruiserweight Tag Team title and three world tag team titles in the promotion.

#2. AEW star and former WWE Champion Paul Wight

Paul Wight initially found success in WCW, where he was billed as the kayfabe son of Andre The Giant. He was an important part of the storyline involving The nWo and won the World Heavyweight Championship twice. The Giant also won three tag titles.

Paul Wight shifted base to WWE and achieved major success as The Big Show. He was considered a company loyalist, and his AEW signing was a surprise. He has since settled into a role as a commentator, although he steps inside the ring from time to time.

#1. WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg

Goldberg's aura of invincibility is still untouched. His role hasn't changed since his WCW days. He turns up, battles his opponents in short, physical contests, and wins the majority of his matches.

Goldberg was WCW's most prized homegrown talent. He was provided with an incredible, albeit bloated undefeated streak and became a top-tier star.

He won the world championship of the company once in his career. Winning the United States and Tag Team titles made him the fifth Triple Crown champion in WCW history.

#1. AEW star and WWE Hall of Famer Sting

Sting is enjoying a rejuvenation as the manager and mentor of Darby Allin. He enters the ring on special occasions and performs with a work rate unexpected from a 62-year-old.

Sting was widely regarded as the Franchise Player of WCW. Numerous main event storylines were built around him. He was initially the biggest representative of WCW against The nWo.

Sting has won numerous championships in WCW, including six reigns with the company's World Heavyweight Championship. He was rightfully chosen to participate in the final match of the brand's existence, where he defeated Ric Flair.
