A few interesting observations from this week's episode of SmackDown Live (August 27)

From Drake Maverick winning the 24/7 championship to Daniel Bryan and Rowan parting ways after another series of twists in Roman Reigns' latest storyline, this week's edition of WWE SmackDown Live (27th August 2019) featured a lot of contrasting moments.

The episode felt like a mashup of last-minute booking decisions that may or may not have paid off in the end for us fans. But when was the last time the blue brand put forth a show that was deemed as a must-watch episode?

Here are a few interesting observations from this week's edition of SmackDown Live:

#3: Why Daniel Bryan's fate as a character is the biggest talking point after a series of twists

Most likely, the curious case of 'who attacked Roman Reigns' will branch off into next week's programming as well.

By now, it has become quite apparent that the outcome of this angle largely depends upon Daniel Bryan's motivations as a WWE character.

If Bryan has been honest about removing Rowan's name as a potential attacker so far, then it seems like Roman Reigns might have made a huge mistake by spearing the former 'YES' Man last night.

But Rowan's reaction to last night's exposé seemed genuine too. Is there a third party pulling the strings here?

At this point, it seems a little too obvious for Daniel Bryan to be the one who orchestrated these attacks all along. If that is still the case, then it makes no sense to leave the fans hanging in the balance every week.

But if the writers know their ending here, then it looks like nothing is as it seems.

How many twists do the writers have up their sleeve, or will this angle run out of twists and turn into an overcooked mess sooner than later?

#2: Will Chad Gable be a dark horse in this year's KOTR Tournament?

Chad Gable has been on the receiving end of Shelton Benjamin's playground insults for quite a while now.

But Gable outsmarted his former tag-team partner by opting for a quick roll-up to move past the first round in this year's KOTR Tournament last night.

This brings up an even bigger question for next week's WWE programming: Will Chad Gable end up exceeding everyone's expectations after all?

WWE might not put too much faith into Chad Gable as someone who could break boundaries, but for what it's worth, fans and critics alike have a rough idea of who the final four are going to be, and Chad Gable doesn't fit into this sphere of conversation at all.

So wouldn't it be a nice surprise if Gable turns out to be a dark horse in this year's King of the Ring Tournament?

#1: Why Kevin Owens' attempt to beat up Elias created a plothole before the 24/7 title madness set in

Elias' run as 24/7 champion has been bittersweet, to say the least.

There are moments of brilliance which are overshadowed by plotholes so gigantic that you couldn't even brush them aside despite this being a slapstick act.

Because showcasing a horde of Superstars chasing the 24/7 champion only seems necessary when it is convenient. After all, nobody attempted to pin Elias while he was busy relaxing in Shane McMahon's office.

Even when Kevin Owens attacked Elias and stunned him in the ring, there seemed to be an extended pause with Elias back-first, as Owens stared at the 24/7 champion with the title around the latter's waist.

That was Owens' moment to become the new 24/7 champion, and even though The Prize Fighter wouldn't fit in with the tone of the shenanigans associated with the title, one couldn't help but think that last night's events were too convenient to pan out the way they did.

It seems like suspension of disbelief only works up to a certain extent of silliness, even by 24/7 title standards.
