Here are a few interesting observations from the 2019 Royal Rumble Pay Per View

This year's Royal Rumble PPV was fairly enjoyable. Given the fact that it was 7 hours long, the entire WWE Crew involved worked efficiently to keep the fans entertained until the end.

Of course, there were several low points in between too. However, as an overall show, WWE succeeded in setting important scenarios for the future.

Speaking of the future, now that we are officially part of this year's Road To WrestleMania, let us take a look at a few interesting observations from the 2019 Royal Rumble Pay Per View.

#3 Why did Erick Rowan help the NEW Daniel Bryan to retain his WWE Championship?

No one saw this coming
No one saw this coming

Erick Rowan attacked AJ Styles during the WWE Championship match last night, and before anyone could realize, it seemed as if Rowan and Daniel Bryan forged an alliance of sorts.

But the question remains- Why?

Perhaps Rowan has the same agenda regarding consumerism and environmental concerns as (the NEW) Daniel Bryan...

But there has to be something more than that. Remember, both Rowan and Bryan were part of The Wyatt Family, even if Daniel Bryan left the Brotherhood shortly after. Perhaps this could be a reunion for the Wyatt Family, especially given the fact that Luke Harper has also been cleared to wrestle.

Maybe this is Rowan's idea of jumpstarting a new phase of his career by joining forces with Bryan, while also is leaving the past behind.

Erick Rowan has certainly been part of various bizarre and unconventional storylines before. But it is safe to say that his newly-formed alliance (if it is one) with Daniel Bryan might be the most intriguing one yet.

Whatever the case may be, the fans certainly expect a lot of things to unfold on this week's SmackDown Live.

#2: The 'David vs. Goliath' trope works in favor of Brock Lesnar

The Beast Incarnate conquered Finn Balor, as expected
The Beast Incarnate conquered Finn Balor, as expected

At this point in Brock Lesnar's career, it comes off as no surprise that the Beast Incarnate has a history of putting on excellent contests with smaller competitors.

Finn Balor put up a valiant effort against Brock Lesnar last night, but ultimately, Goliath (Lesnar) annihilated David (Balor), just like Vince McMahon had predicted. Despite the fact that the villain conquered here, many fans witnessed a good contest, which also drew a lot of audible gasps from a crowd that should have worn themselves out at that point in the show.

The very fact that we root for the underdog whenever it comes to matches featuring Brock Lesnar gives everyone a sense of hope whenever the 'smaller guy' gets the upper hand. Lesnar is booked as a legitimate fighter, who has the ability to stay resilient in various disparate instances.

Moreover, WWE has created a protective aura around him. To keep it short, the 'David vs. Goliath' scenario works in favour with Brock Lesnar simply because he brings a different background to this situation as compared to rest of the main roster.

The very fact that we go into his matches thinking that the underdog stands no chance shows how strong of a character Brock Lesnar is, and ultimately, fans are thrilled to see a back-and-forth between Lesnar and his smaller competitor no matter what the result may be...

#1 A tale of two Rumbles

Which Royal Rumble match was better this year?
Which Royal Rumble match was better this year?

Both Royal Rumble matches last night featured winners that were fan-favourites by default.

However, from an overall standpoint, I personally felt that the Men's Royal Rumble Match was better structured, more engaging and well-executed as compared to the Women's Royal Rumble Match.

When it comes to the Women, the first half of the Rumble was uncharacteristic. Some spots were poorly executed, and it was apparent that sequences that were supposed to get huge cheers were overshadowed by the fact that the same sequences felt off-key simply because they took place at the wrong time.

It did pick up from the second half though, and the Vega-Hornswoggle spot improved the situation to some extent. Of course, Becky Lynch made the save by hitting a home-run right from her taking Lana's spot to winning the Rumble match itself later on. Still, the execution could have been way better, even if the results were positive in the end.

As for the Men's Rumble Match, people were entertained from start-to-finish right from Jeff Jarrett and Elias' bit to Nia Jax entering the match and setting forth some interesting chain of events. The execution of all sequences was spot-on for the most part and Seth Rollins winning the match itself is what puts this one in the better category of Rumble matches throughout history.

If you deconstruct the 2019 Men's Royal Rumble match from bell-to-bell, it will just show you how tightly structured and well-executed the match was.

Nevertheless, even if the 2019 Royal Rumble had some ups and downs, it will certainly be regarded amongst the better PPVs of the year simply because it sets a roadmap for upcoming shows while also giving fans what they want at the same time.
