3 reasons why Edge should face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37 & 3 reasons why he should face Drew McIntyre

Edge won the 2021 Royal Rumble Men's match - marking his second Rumble victory. In doing so, he joined the elite list of superstars such as Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, John Cena, Batista, and Randy Orton in being multi-time winners.

The Road to WrestleMania has begun, and Edge has two options - to compete for the WWE or Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37. Both Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns would make great opponents for Edge, and there is an argument in favor of either match.

We look at both sides of the coin and make a case for Edge's WrestleMania 37 match.

#3. Why Edge should face Roman Reigns: Biggest possible Universal title match

Every year at WrestleMania, WWE has the biggest plans for Roman Reigns, and Edge could be a part of that. When you look at his last five WrestleMania appearances, his opponents were - Brock Lesnar (2015 and 2018), Triple H, The Undertaker, and Drew McIntyre.

While his WrestleMania 35 match against Drew McIntyre was an afterthought, it was simply set up with the objective of getting Roman Reigns back in the mix after his return.

Had Roman Reigns not pulled out of WrestleMania 36, he would have faced Goldberg and defeated him to win the Universal Championship, but that didn't happen.

It's clear that WWE always has the biggest plans for Roman Reigns. Since he's virtually guaranteed to walk into WrestleMania 37 as the Universal Champion, Edge would make for a great challenger.

As of now, there aren't many big names who Roman Reigns can face as a heel, and he could have major matches with. Since Edge is a babyface, the dynamic of it would be great.

Even with the other part-timers, Edge would be the biggest possible opponent Roman Reigns could defend his Universal title against at WrestleMania 37.

#3. Why Edge should face Drew McIntyre: An unexpectedly interesting direction

Edge vs. Drew McIntyre would be a rather unexpected direction for WrestleMania 37. There have been several rumors about opponents for both men, and Edge vs. Drew McIntyre was never in the conversation.

While the dynamic would likely be less interesting with both men being babyfaces, it could still lead to an incredible, marquee WrestleMania 37 match.

While the status of crowds at WrestleMania 37 seems uncertain, the fact that it's happening at the Raymond James Stadium means that WWE is expecting a big crowd to come - even if it's not to full capacity.

It could be a bit of an experiment to see how much interest there is in a match like that. While Edge and a few of the other part-time legend have undeniable drawing power, it could be a test to see where Drew McIntyre stands in that aspect.

With WWE having several experiments in 2020, it wouldn't be a bad time to do so with the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre - the man they've been committed to for over a year now.

#2. Why Edge should face Roman Reigns: A dream match teased should become a reality

Edge and Roman Reigns had a dream face-off.

When Edge made his in-ring return last year at the 2020 Royal Rumble, there were a few matches teased. While there was a brief tease against AJ Styles, the biggest one was against Roman Reigns.

Edge and Roman Reigns were in the final three alongside Drew McIntyre in the 2020 Royal Rumble, and there was a big confrontation with Roman Reigns. Corey Graves made a great call at that moment, stating that he would never have imagined a WWE 2K dream match becoming a reality.

Edge is still a part-timer at the end of the day, and his appearances over the next couple of years will be limited. WWE will want to make the most of it and book Edge in big-money matches.

Edge vs. Roman Reigns would most certainly be a dream match, and it would make a lot of sense to book it. It's a match that could easily headline WrestleMania 37.

#2. Why Edge should face Drew McIntyre: A perfect way to put over the WWE Champion

Goldberg endorsed Drew McIntyre in a big way.

Since WrestleMania 36, the three biggest names that Drew McIntyre has beaten are Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Goldberg. WWE rarely invests in a star as heavily as this, and a perfect example is with The Fiend Bray Wyatt last year.

WWE built up Bray Wyatt and The Fiend character for months, only for him to get squashed clean by Goldberg in Saudi Arabia. Goldberg has a habit of coming in and taking the World Title from younger Superstars, but that wasn't the case this time.

It took Drew McIntyre two-and-a-half minutes to defeat the WWE Hall of Famer and former Universal Champion with a Claymore Kick. Since WWE keeps adding major names to Drew McIntyre's victim list, Edge could be added to that.

Defeating Edge at WrestleMania 37 would be another major feather in the cap of Drew McIntyre, whose star power would likely reach an all-time high.

#1. Why Edge should face Roman Reigns: He's big enough to dethrone Roman Reigns

Kevin Owens.

Roman Reigns is currently having the best run of his career, and crossing paths with Edge would further cement that. Right now, Roman Reigns is the heel that WWE fans have always wanted to see, and his run as the Universal Champion has been phenomenal.

He has been nothing short of unstoppable, and with all due respect to Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns is the rightful Universal Champion.

It's hard to think of many stars on SmackDown who are in a prime position to dethrone Roman Reigns. Kevin Owens was a good Superstar for him to feud with, but Edge is a WrestleMania-worthy opponent.

Not just that, but Edge is a name who is big enough to dethrone Roman Reigns and win the Universal Champion. While Roman Reigns defeating Edge wouldn't be a bad outcome either, it makes sense, and it would be a good WrestleMania moment to see Edge win the World title from him.

It's a good story, with the dominant heel Champion finally getting his comeuppance at The Grandest Stage of Them All.

#1. Why Edge should face Drew McIntyre: A great opponent to win World title #12

Edge is going to WrestleMania 37.

If Edge vs. Drew McIntyre were the direction that WWE goes in, then it's clear how the match would be promoted. The match's entire promotion would likely be based on Edge's attempt at a 12th World Championship.

We mustn't forget that when Edge retired in 2011, he was the World Heavyweight Champion. Not only did he successfully defend his World title at WrestleMania 27 against Alberto Del Rio, but he retired as the World Champion.

It's a title he never lost, and while the World Heavyweight title has since been unified, an attempt at World Championship goal is the objective. Edge going for a title that he never lost would normally mean that he could enter title contention right away, but a second Royal Rumble win only adds to the story.

A feel-good WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania 37 would be a good way to end Drew McIntyre's second World Title reign. It wouldn't damage him, and Edge would get his 12th World Title.
