We are less than three weeks away from the 2019 edition of Survivor Series. For the first time in the history of the event, NXT will take part in the battle for brand supremacy. WWE has already announced a few matches for the upcoming event. RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch, SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley, and NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler will square off in a Triple Threat Match. Similarly, the three brands' tag team champions will also go head to head. WWE has also announced two traditional tag team elimination bouts for the event.

The only title match scheduled for the event so far is between the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Rey Mysterio. Lesnar has been engaged in a heated rivalry against Mysterio for the last several weeks. Mysterio has gained the upper hand on Lesnar as of late, most recently beating him with a pipe on RAW. However, most fans may not take this matchup seriously since it looks lopsided due to the vast size differences between the two Superstars.

History has proven, however, that Rey Mysterio should not be treated as a mer pushover. In this article, we take a look at three reasons why fans should not be shocked, if Rey Mysterio defeats Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2019.

#3. Double Duty at Survivor Series

The three-way brand war is happening and world champions from three brands could still collide.

Survivor Series is about brand supremacy. As mentioned previously, similar champions from NXT, SmackDown, and RAW will face off against one another in a series of Triple Threat Matches. The world title from each brand should not be an exception. NXT Champion Adam Cole, Universal Champion Bray Wyatt, and the WWE Champion could still be pitted against one another in a huge Survivor Series Triple Threat Match.

This would prove particularly difficult for the 42 year old Brock Lesnar, as he would be forced to wrestle twice in one night. If the 286 pound Lesnar does have to wrestle twice, a fresh Rey Mysterio would certainly gain the upper hand over a winded Lesnar. This could provide Mysterio with the perfect opportunity to leave Survivor Series as WWE Champion.

#2. A final run for Rey Mysterio as WWE Champion

John Cena ended Rey Mysterio's WWE title reign in under two hours.

During his run with WWE from the early 2000s to early 2010s, Rey Mysterio was able to etch several amazing title runs. Mysterio is a multi-time World Champion, has captured the United States Title, Intercontinental Title, and Tag Team Titles numerous times. 'The Ultimate Underdog' also won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22, defeating both Kurt Angle and Randy Orton in a Triple Threat Match. While Mysterio's climb to world championship status has always been memorable, his title reigns - not so much.

WWE Creative treated Mysterio as an easy target for larger opponents even while champion. Both of his World Heavyweight Championship reigns ended prematurely, but his lone WWE Championship reign was even more tragic.

After enduring a tournament to declare the WWE Champion, Mysterio was named the winner after pinning The Miz on RAW. However, John Cena challenged Mysterio for a WWE Championship match that very night. Poor Mysterio stood no chance against the Cenation Leader and lost his WWE title a mere two hours after capturing it.

At 44 years old, Rey Mysterio is not getting any younger and he even recently considered retirement before being convinced to alter course by his son Dominic. WWE could be thinking about rewarding the legend with one last WWE Championship reign before the veteran calls it a day. With Mysterio receiving heavy crowd support as of late, WWE would put the strap on the legendary luchador.

#1. A potential Cain Velasquez vs Brock Lesnar feud

WWE may not allow Rey Mysterio to defeat Brock Lesnar clean. Even if Rey Mysterio were to overcome 'The Beast,' he would likely require some additional assistance. Mysterio could use some help from his "family" member Cain Velasquez.

At WWE Crown Jewel 2019, Brock Lesnar defeated Cain Velasquez in a WWE Championship match. Lesnar made Velasquez tap out to the Kimora Lock. However, since WWE signed Velasquez in a multiyear contract, we might see more of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion in WWE.

Velasquez was not officially drafted to any of WWE's three brands, so we could see 'Cardio Cain' join Brock Lesnar and Rey Mysterio on the RAW roster. At Survivor Series, we could see Velasquez play a huge role in costing Lesnar the WWE title.

Fifteen years ago, another Mexican WWE legend, Eddie Guerrero, defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship in a similar manner. Guerrero was aided by none other than Bill Goldberg, who speared Lesnar when the referee was knocked down. Guerrero captured the WWE Championship while Lesnar and Goldberg went on to have a grudge match at WrestleMania 20.

Similarly, if Mysterio defeats Lesnar with a bit of help from Velasquez, we could see a grudge match between Lesnar and Velasquez at the upcoming Royal Rumble or even at WrestleMania 36.
