3 Things WWE made clear on SmackDown Live this week (20 August 2019)

We saw a major twist this week
We saw a major twist this week

WWE is gradually developing the storylines for Clash of Champions and it progressed significantly this week. With some good matches, we also saw a couple of exciting segments.

Buddy Murphy, who made his SmackDown Live debut last week, faced Daniel Bryan on the blue brand. Interestingly, Murphy pinned the former WWE Champion. Two King of the Ring matches took place on SmackDown Live as Andrade defeated Apollo Crews and Kevin Owens was pinned by Elias who got help from Shane McMahon.

Elsewhere on the show, Charlotte Flair and Bayley had a heated confrontation and the two women are set to collide at Clash of Champions. The Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura found new alliance as he joined hands with Sami Zayn. The Revival defeated Heavy Machinery in a tag team match. Kofi Kingston avenged the previous two assaults of Randy Orton when the WWE Champion decimated the Viper on SmackDown Live.

It was certainly an entertaining episode this week. Let's find out three things WWE made clear on SmackDown Live.

#3 Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon will have a rematch

The King of the Ring tournament began this week as two matches took place on RAW and the other two matches were held on SmackDown Live. Kevin Owens, who was one of the sixteen participants in the tournament, faced Elias on SmackDown Live. Having an excellent track record in his career, Owens was certainly a top pick from SmackDown Live but we saw a surprising result.

Owens couldn't qualify for the next round of the tournament as he was beaten by The Drifter on SmackDown Live. However, Elias didn't have a fair victory as Shane McMahon helped him to win the bout. Prior to the match, Owens was warned by Shane that the former could get fired if he puts his hands on the referee. During the match, Shane revealed himself as the guest referee. Elias pinned Owens after Shane made a fast count.

Considering the conclusion of the match, the rivalry between Owens and Shane is far from over. The two men will most likely lock horns at Clash of Champions. They faced each other at SummerSlam where the former Universal Champion defeated Shane McMahon.

#2 The Miz is likely to challenge the Intercontinental Champion Nakamura

The Miz had a rivalry with Dolph Ziggler but the feud is probably over. While Ziggler faced Roman Reigns on RAW, The Miz fought in a tag team match. On SmackDown Live, WWE probably gave us a hint of a new rivalry on Miz TV.

Sami Zayn was the guest on Miz TV this week. Being a heel, Zayn started to insult the A-Lister and it looked like the former NXT Champion could be the next opponent for The Miz but we saw a twist. Zayn introduced Shinsuke Nakamura during the segment and things got interesting. Since Nakamura is not fluent in English, Zayn offered to become a mouthpiece for the champion. In fact, the segment ended with a vicious Kinshasa to the A-Lister.

It's a brilliant move as Nakamura could be propelled well with Sami Zayn. So far, it has been a subpar title reign for the King of Strong Style but it could change after this week. Judging by the Miz TV segment on SmackDown Live, the A-Lister could become the next challenger for Nakamura. The Miz is one of the most decorated Intercontinental Champions in WWE as he won the belt eight times, therefore, he could be aiming to recapture it at Clash of Champions.

#1 Roman Reigns' original mystery attacker will be revealed just before Clash of Champions

Roman Reigns' storyline has taken an interesting turn on SmackDown Live this week. It all began a couple of weeks before SummerSlam when the Big Dog was attacked in the backstage area. It didn't stop there as the unknown attacker also hit Reigns' car in the parking lot area.

Buddy Murphy, who was spotted during the first attack, took the name of Rowan earlier. The former Cruiserweight Champion confessed that it was a lie when he was assaulted by Rowan and Daniel Bryan last week. Murphy gave a confusing answer once again this week as he confirmed that the assaulter was Rowan. However, an unknown man was presented as the mystery attacker who looked exactly like Rowan.

It is a no brainer that WWE is stretching the storyline and the unknown man is not the mystery attacker. In the middle of this bewilderment, it will be interesting to see who is the original attacker. By looking at the scenario, the company could reveal the attacker just before Clash of Champions and it will not be surprising if he turns out to be Daniel Bryan.
