Seth Rollins was put into an interesting rivalry with Dolph Ziggler and the returning Drew McIntyre during the mid and late 2018. This resulted in Seth Rollins first winning the Championship at WrestleMania 34, then losing his Intercontinental Championship to The Showoff before finally regaining it at SummerSlam 2018.

During that time, WWE was trying to bring The Shield back together after the return of Dean Ambrose from an injury. However, a heartbreaking announcement from Roman Reigns regarding his cancer resulted in The Shield not getting in the fifth gear, and Rollins and Ambrose decided to dedicate a Raw Tag Team Championship victory to their brother.

Rollins and Ambrose defeated Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre for the red straps, but Ambrose turned on Rollins right after the match.

This marked the second time Rollins became a double champion in WWE, and he was left to defend the Raw Tag Team Titles alone after Ambrose abandoned him, which resulted in him losing the titles to the Authors of Pain after just a couple of weeks.
