WWE veteran Randy Orton will go down in pro-wrestling history as one of the greatest Superstars to ever lace up a pair of boots. Orton has been a WWE mainstay for around two decades now. He has won numerous World titles, a bunch of mid-card belts, and is a sure-fire first-ballot future Hall of Famer.

Orton will be taking on Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam 2020 with the latter's WWE title on the line. Over the past few months, Randy Orton has put down a string of WWE legends and is being hailed by fans as one of the best heels at the moment. Based on the "Legend Killer" moniker that Orton made famous back in the day, we will be taking a look at 3 WWE legends that Orton "killed" (managed to defeat), and 3 that he simply couldn't "kill".

#6 Edge (Randy Orton "kills" a legend)

Edge

Edge made his return to WWE at the 2020 Royal Rumble PPV, in a moment that fans never thought they would ever get to witness. Edge had a strong showing at the PPV and was one of the final three participants in the free-for-all. After the PPV, Randy Orton brutally attacked Edge on WWE RAW, thus kicking off a rivalry on the road to WrestleMania 36. Orton lost the Last Man Standing match to Edge at The Show of Shows, but he still wanted another shot at his arch-rival.

Edge and Orton met again at Backlash 2020, in what WWE dubbed as "The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever". Orton finished things off with a Punt and picked up the victory after 45 minutes of action. Thus Orton again lived up to his famous moniker of "The Legend Killer" by putting down the WWE Hall of Famer. Edge got injured during the match and is currently out of action for 4-8 months.

#5 Eddie Guerrero (Randy Orton fails to "kill" a legend)

For the better part of his WWE career, Randy Orton was on RAW. Eddie Guerrero, on the other hand, was on WWE SmackDown in the early to mid-2000s. The two finally crossed paths in late 2005, with Eddie scoring a DQ win over Orton on SmackDown. A week later, Eddie teamed up with Batista to take on Orton and Mr. Kennedy. The babyface picked up the victory again, with the match ending in a DQ this time as well.

WWE gave us a 6-Man Tag Team match the next week and added Roddy Piper and Bob Orton in the mix. In the end, Eddie, Batista, and Piper defeated the villainous trio. Thus, Eddie ended up with an impressive record of 3-0 against Randy Orton. This was one of the last matches of Eddie before he would tragically pass away due to arteriosclerotic heart disease. Eddie was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006. Orton brought up Eddie during his feud with Rey Mysterio on the road to WrestleMania, to the fans' disgust. Rey would go on to defeat Orton and Kurt Angle at WrestleMania to win his first World title.

#4 Shawn Michaels (Randy Orton "kills" a legend)

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels has faced Randy Orton on countless occasions, as the duo was on WWE RAW in the 2000s. Both Superstars defeated the other on various occasions, but it also means that Orton stayed true to his moniker whenever he defeated the Heartbreak Kid. Back in 2003, Orton and Shawn kicked off a feud and faced each other at Unforgiven. This was when Orton had recently started calling himself "The Legend Killer". At the PPV, the match was billed as "Legend vs Legend Killer", and it ended with Orton scoring a victory over the WWE veteran.

Years later, Orton met Shawn again at Judgment Day 2007. He attacked Michaels a short while before the match, and it eventually helped him put down Shawn in a quick manner. They resumed their feud in late 2007 when Michaels returned to WWE TV. The feud ended at Survivor Series 2007, where Orton defeated Michaels to retain his WWE title.

#3 Mr. Perfect (Randy Orton fails to "kill" a legend)

Randy Orton and WWE Hall of Famer Mr. Perfect faced each other under the WWE umbrella on five occasions, with all instances being from the time when Orton was yet to debut on the main roster. Every single one of these matches took place in early 2002. In January 2002, Orton took on Mr. Perfect for the first time in his career, on WWE Sunday Night Heat. Orton lost the match, in what would be the first of several losses against Mr. Perfect.

A month later, Mr. Perfect and Big Boss Man defeated Orton and Crash Holly on back-to-back editions of WWE Live. Mere days later, Orton teamed up with Shelton Benjamin in a losing effort against Mr. Perfect and Leviathan. The latter would go on to become Randy Orton's Evolution stablemate, and also get a name change from Leviathan to Batista. In March, Orton suffered another loss to Mr. Perfect on Sunday Night Heat, thus ending the score at 5-0 in Mr. Perfect's favor. Orton has put down a long string of legends in his WWE career, but Mr. Perfect is certainly not one of them.

#2 Mick Foley (Randy Orton "kills" a legend)

Mick Foley

On the road to WrestleMania 20 in 2003-04, Evolution began having problems with WWE legend Mick Foley. Randy Orton was particularly not fond of Foley, and was determined to destroy him and add another name to his list of the legends that he "killed". Foley brought back The Rock to even the odds, and a 3-on-2 Handicap match was set for WrestleMania 20. At The Show of Shows, Orton hit a thunderous RKO out of nowhere on Foley and pinned him to win the match for Evolution.

The rivalry was far from over though. At Backlash 2004, Orton took on Foley's alter ego, Cactus Jack, in a Hardcore match for the Intercontinental title. Orton was on the receiving end of some serious beating in the match and was dropped on a pile of thumbtacks at one point, in a disturbing visual. Eventually, Orton defeated his nemesis and retained the title. Many fans regard this match as the moment that turned Randy Orton into a legit star.

#1 Hulk Hogan (Randy Orton fails to "kill" a legend)

Back in the spring of 2002, Hulk Hogan was carrying the WWE title, in what would be his final run with the belt. Around the same time, Randy Orton made his way to the main roster. The duo didn't cross paths for years on end, but it finally happened on the road to SummerSlam 2006. Orton kicked off a rivalry with The Immortal One, and a match was set for The Biggest Party of the Summer.

The match saw Orton hitting an RKO on Hogan and pinning him for the win. The referee soon realized that Hogan's feet were on the ropes while he was making the three-count, and restarted the match as a result. This time around, Hogan didn't give Randy Orton another chance at pinning him, and hit a Leg Drop on The Legend Killer to pick up the victory. This was Hogan's final match in WWE and he has yet to step foot in a WWE ring again, as a wrestler.
