5 current WWE Superstars who have never had a singles match at WrestleMania

WrestleMania – where Superstars become legends and legends become immortalised

WrestleMania, the showcase of the immortals, where Superstars become legends. So many men and women over the years have cemented their legacies as WWE icons by pulling out the performances of their lives at WrestleMania.

Anyone who has the opportunity to perform on the grandest stage of them all has the opportunity to become immortal, for a classic match at WrestleMania will be remembered forever.

Hogan vs. Andre, Rock vs. Austin and Michaels vs. The Undertaker are just three examples of matches that will never be forgotten by the fans, all 6 men are either current or guaranteed future Hall of Famers and their performances at the biggest show of the year are a huge part of their legendary careers.

But what about Superstars who have never had their moment to shine at WrestleMania?

While most WrestleManias are made up of dream matches, pitting the best performers in the industry against each other in one-on-one competition, a lot of the roster ends up getting thrown into multi-man matches.

This means that they have to share the spotlight with a number of other Superstars and sometimes don’t get the focus they need in order to make a significant impact.

That’s not to say that it’s impossible, matches like TLC or Money In The Bank have given multiple men the chance to shine in high-profile matches, but singles matches are the bread and butter of professional wrestling and are where many legends have made their names.

Matches like Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage have even gone so far as to overshadow the main event matches of that year’s WrestleMania. So with that being said, let’s take a look at 5 current WWE Superstars who are yet to have a singles match at WrestleMania.

#1 Cesaro

Cesaro has had many great singles matches in his career, but not at WrestleMania

Cesaro is one of the best technical wrestlers that WWE currently has on its roster, yet he has not been given the chance to showcase his talent in a singles contest at WrestleMania thus far in his career.

Granted, he did have a ‘Mania moment’ at WrestleMania 30 when he won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and was able to show his unbelievable strength by lifting Big Show up onto his shoulders before dumping him over the top rope.

At the time, this felt like it could be the beginning of a big push for Cesaro, but that never materialised and his career since then has been very stop-start.

A firm and prolonged push for Cesaro over the coming years could lead to a classic Mania match and there are a whole host of wrestlers on the current roster that the ‘Swiss Superman’ could have a memorable bout with at the event.

#2 Paige

Will Paige ever fulfil her potential?

Although Paige is still in the early stages of her career, she has now been a member of WWE’s main roster for nearly three years and is yet to have a significant or memorable moment at WrestleMania.

After making her Mania debut at WrestleMania 31 in a tag match with AJ Lee against The Bellas, Paige’s career has been in a steady decline.

She performed as a member of ‘Team Total Divas’ in a 10-woman tag match at last year’s Mania pre-show and, unless something drastically changes in the coming weeks, she is unlikely to feature at all at this year’s event, let alone have a singles match.

Paige was earmarked as the leader of the women’s revolution when the new generation of female talent began to breakout, but she has thus far been cast to the side while the likes of Charlotte and Sasha Banks have taken women’s wrestling to new heights.

It’s safe to say that the first few WrestleManias of Paige’s career have not been what WWE management, the fans or Paige herself would have hoped for.

#3 Kofi Kingston

Is Kofi Kingston ready to break out as a singles star?

Kofi Kingston has now been a part of WWE’s roster for 10 years and has appeared on the main card of 6 WrestleManias. However, he has only participated in battle royals, multi-man tag matches and Money In The Bank matches.

His biggest Mania moment arguably came last year when he partnered with Big E and Xavier Woods as part of the New Day to take on the League of Nations. New Day were one of the most popular acts in WWE at the time of WrestleMania 32 and their ‘cereal box’ entrance was a memorable moment from last year’s show.

However, I’m sure Kofi has dreamed of having the spotlight solely on him at the biggest show of the year, but with being one of the hosts of WrestleMania 33, it seems unlikely that he will be given that opportunity on April 2nd.

#4 Zack Ryder

Ryder had a Mania moment last year, but will he ever have another one?

At last year’s WrestleMania, Zack Ryder finally had his Mania moment when he captured the Intercontinental Title in a ladder match. Ryder was ecstatic just to have his music played at Mania for the first time in his career, so you can only imagine what the high-profile win meant to him.

However, as has been the story for most of Zack’s career, WWE didn’t capitalise on this momentum as he lost the championship to The Miz the following night on Raw and abruptly began to drop back down the card.

The same happened at WrestleMania 28 when Ryder had plenty of momentum behind him thanks to the ‘Ryder revolution’, but instead of being placed in a meaningful match, Zack was part of Team Teddy in a match against Team Johnny and received a low-blow from Eve Torres after the match.

It’s a common opinion amongst fans that Zack Ryder has deserved more from WWE for his hard work and dedication to the company over the years, but it is a very real possibility that Ryder’s moment at last year’s Mania may have been the peak of his career.

#5 Dolph Ziggler

Will Dolph ever steal the biggest show of them all?

Arguably the most baffling point on this list is the fact that Dolph Ziggler has never had a singles match at WrestleMania.

The former World Heavyweight Champion and multi-time Intercontinental Champion has long been considered as one of the best in-ring performers in WWE and has put on many great matches over the course of his career.

The recent brand split had seemingly given Dolph something of a career resurgence and he has had memorable feuds with Dean Ambrose and, in particular, The Miz, in recent months. However, since then, Dolph has again become quite stale and is unlikely to be set for a significant role at this year’s WrestleMania.

With him being 36, you begin to wonder whether Dolph Ziggler will ever have his WrestleMania moment.
