This week had no dearth of a dose of hilarity, which is a must after one goes through hours upon hours of physical action and promos. After a long while, former WWE Champion CM Punk got in a ring and delivered a scathing promo, but it had its fair share of chuckle-inducing bits. Drake Maverick's exploits were the highlight of the 24/7 title picture this week. Let's check out the funniest moments from the past seven days.
#5 Drake Maverick flees the arena with Renee Michelle in an amusing visual, after winning the 24/7 title
The latest episode of SmackDown Live saw Elias being attacked by Kevin Owens, who appeared behind an unsuspecting Elias while he was berating the live crowd. The brawl continued in the ring, ending with Elias eating a Stunner.
Suddenly, R-Truth appeared with a referee, and proceeded to attempt to pin an unconscious Elias. Unfortunately for Truth, Drake Maverick pulled him out of the ring and covered Elias for the victory.
Soon after, Maverick was seen carrying the title belt and attempting to flee the spot as soon as possible. He suddenly noticed his wife Renee Michelle in a backstage area, who then handed her bag and sandals to Maverick. Now able to run freely, Michelle sprinted towards the exit, with Maverick trying to catch up with her.
#4 Shelton Benjamin can't see Chad Gable
Shelton Benjamin had been teasing a new gimmick since a long while on the blue brand. He finally broke his silence on a recent episode, referring to Chad Gable as 'shorty'. It was later reported that Gable and Benjamin were both set to get new gimmicks, with new monikers of "Shorty G" and "Shelty B".
As Gable was being interviewed backstage, Shelton Benjamin appeared and made jokes on his height. He took it up a notch higher this time, pretending as if he couldn't see Gable because of his height. Benjamin then stared down at Gable and left the spot. Gable had the last laugh though, as he defeated Benjamin to advance to the next round of King of the Ring.
#3 Braun has an unusual choice for a breakfast
On a recent episode of Monday Night Raw, the makeshift team of Braun Strowman and Universal Champion Seth Rollins defeated The O.C. (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) to win the Raw Tag Team titles. On the latest episode of Raw, a Tag Team Turmoil Match was held, which ended with another newly-formed team, Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode, defeating Heavy Machinery.
At Clash of Champions, the heelish duo will face the Champions for the Tag Team gold. When WWE asked the fans on Twitter to give a name to the team of Roode and Ziggler, Strowman had a hilarious reply: 'Breakfast'! You can check out the tweet HERE.
#2 CM Punk still has 'it' when it comes to the stick
After what seemed like ages, former WWE Champion CM Punk cut a promo inside the squared circle, to promote his Starrcast III appearance that took place tonight. Punk's promo was then posted by Starrcast's official Twitter handle. During the early moments of the promo, Punk sat in the ring in his signature manner, which reminded the fans of his famous Pipebomb promo from 2011.
Punk then looked at the camera and asked: "Everybody sits this way now, right?"
This was possibly a subtle light-hearted jibe at Aleister Black, who can be seen sitting on the ring mat in this manner on a regular basis. The promo grew intense toward the end, and is worth watching if you're a fan of Punk. You can watch the promo HERE.
#1 Drake Maverick spends the entire night under the ring
It won't be a stretch to call Drake Maverick possibly the funniest act in WWE at the moment, of course alongside R-Truth. We already know that Maverick successfully captured the WWE 24/7 title on the latest episode of SmackDown Live, by pinning Elias. But what did he have to go through to get this opportunity?
Maverick's obsession with the title knows no bounds, and the above video is just one of several proofs to support that statement. He hid under the ring even before the show kicked off. The video shows Maverick under the ring at around 5:15 PM. He even managed to take a quick nap. Finally, Maverick moved out when opportunity presented itself, and won back the title.
