5 Likely reasons why The Revival and WWE have agreed on their release from the company

We heard some really stunning news about the 'Top Guys'

News about The Revival probably moving to greener pastures from WWE had been doing the rounds for some time. We all knew it was only a matter of time before they went elsewhere, and now, it's been made official.

WWE and The Revival have agreed upon their immediate release from the company. This was the Tweet that was sent out by WWE confirming the same.

Obviously, we at Sportskeeda wish The Revival all the best in their future endeavors. We are all fans of what they bring to the table as competitors and as pro wrestlers and would love to see them ply their trade elsewhere and make waves.

So, while liquor is difficult to procure in the times of coronavirus, I still raise a metaphorical glass and say 'cheers' to the 'Top Guys.'

#5 Inability to make waves on RAW and SmackDown

I think it's safe to say that The Revival had the best matches of their entire career in NXT. Whether it was against American Alpha or against Ciampa and Gargano, the 'top guys' put on tag team clinics that every young wrestler can look at and study, as an example of how to put a match together. Unfortunately, the same level of success did not translate to the main roster.

But when they came up to the 'main roster', they did not fare nearly as well because they did not really fit into a 'sports entertainment' mold. And this is why they languished in skits where they were scratching themselves or shaving each other's backs.

It was this inability of theirs to connect with the mainstream audience that assured them, in all likelihood, that there are opportunities elsewhere for the taking.

WWE is not the only game in town in 2020.

#4 A chance to reinvent themselves (just like Drew McIntyre)

Just because you have been released from the company does not necessarily spell the end of your association with the company and we've seen several examples of this. The best example of the same is Drew McIntyre, who was hailed as the future of the company when he first made his debut, was released from the company, reinvented himself on the independent circuit, and came back to WWE to defeat Brock Lesnar and become the WWE Champion.

If The Revival choose to return at a future date to the company from elsewhere, they will have a fresh coat of paint on them and let's be honest, also be a lot more over considering that most other promotions don't have as many people competing for limited spots like WWE does, with its sheer wealth of talent.

In fact, once they return from AEW or Impact Wrestling or wherever they may choose to go next, they will probably be a much bigger deal than they are at this point in time.

#3 A brand new player in town

He was one of the top stars in WWE when he decided to move elsewhere. Since then, Dean Ambrose has changed his name to his original indie moniker Jon Moxley and gone on to become the AEW Champion.

We have also seen Jake Hager become a part of Chris Jericho's stable - The Inner Circle, and now Luke Harper has transformed into Brodie Lee, the leader of the Dark Order. There is a new player in town, and they are taking some of WWE's lesser-used talents and pushing them into prominent roles on their television program called AEW Dynamite.

The Revival may thrive in such a situation because even though AEW is putting on a whole bunch of quality shows on a weekly basis, they still do not have the same kind of name recognition that WWE does.

Because The Revival is an established commodity already, they can bring new eyeballs to the company in much the same way that former WWF stars helped WCW become a household name during the Monday Night Wars.

#2 A possible dream feud with The Young Bucks in AEW

How often do we say things like 'if only The Undertaker and Sting had been part of the same promotion in the 90s, we would have gotten a dream match between the two'?! The same argument can be made for Stone Cold Steve Austin and Goldberg as well, and to an extent, even Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles, who are Superstars from different eras.

Thanks to The Revival possibly heading to All Elite Wrestling, we may just see one such dream match transpire between two elite groups.

Some feel that The Young Bucks are the best tag team unit in the world and others feel that it is The Revival, and one can make an argument for both. Yes, they wrestle completely different styles in the ring but neither has a bad match, more often than not.

And a match between both teams would probably be the best tag team contest that the world has ever seen if The Revival land up in AEW.

Plus, The Young Bucks are also executives in AEW and hence, the tag team division is something the company is very serious about.

#1 Tag Team wrestling has never been WWE's prime focus

One of the most delightful interviews I've done through the course of my stint here in Sportskeeda was with Scott Dawson back when he was one-half of the RAW Tag Team Champions, in a global teleconference. It was clear from our conversation that there's nobody more passionate about the art of tag team wrestling like Dash and Dawson.

When I brought up the fact that Nicholas and Braun Strowman had won the RAW Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania, Dawson seemed hurt:

"What were my thoughts about that? Oh man. Probably the same thoughts that you had and everyone else had. I'd say it was a slap in the face. That was one of the things where I had to swallow my pride a little bit and Dash and I have talked about it; that's one of the things that adds to the chip on our shoulder."

It was clear through the course of our conversation and everything else I've seen on social media before and since our chat, that Dash and Dawson are two extremely passionate men and WWE wasn't really the right fit for two such artists.

But AEW or anywhere else they may choose to go is a brand new canvas that they can potentially paint upon.
