At the 2020 WWE Royal Rumble PPV, Bray Wyatt faced Daniel Bryan in a Universal title Strap match. Wyatt's alter ego The Fiend picked up the win over Bryan to retain his belt. On the road to Royal Rumble, Wyatt had made a post to hype up the eventual bout and recalled his WWE Royal Rumble 2014 match against Bryan, which he had won. Wyatt stated that the match was one of his all-time favorites, and he dubbed Bryan as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
Bryan had engaged in a feud with The Wyatt Family in early 2014. He faced the trio in a 3-on-1 Handicap match at TLC 2013, followed by which Bryan became a part of the family for a short period. He turned on them soon after and faced Bray at the Royal Rumble PPV. Although Bryan didn't win the match, WWE listened to the fans and built the main event of WrestleMania 30 around him, which led to Bryan defeating Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista in a single night to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
