5 Possible challengers for Seth Rollins' Universal Championship

Who will try to dethrone The Architect?
Who will try to dethrone The Architect?

Over the past couple of weeks, WWE has entertained us with some brilliant shows one after the another. WrestleMania 35 was one of the best 'Mania's in recent history and the follow-up Raw and SmackDown Live were also very decent.

At the Show of Shows, Seth Rollins slayed the Beast Incarnate to become the new WWE Universal Champion and that felt like a huge moment for the Architect. That means we are officially in the era of 'Monday Night Rollins,' and that's going to be as resplendent as ever.

During Seth's Intercontinental Championship reign in 2018, he proved why he is regarded as one of the best wrestlers in the world and with him now having the Universal Championship, expect some show-stealing matches in the coming months.

The Architect will have a variety of challengers coming his way and most of them will be made clear after the Superstar Shake-up. But for what it's worth, here are the 5 Superstars who could challenge Rollins for the Universal Championship:

#5 Lars Sullivan

While its highly unlikely that the freak athlete, Lars Sullivan could be given a title shot by Vince McMahon so early in his main roster career, stranger things have happened in the WWE before and considering the impact Sullivan has made on his debut, don't be surprised if he faces Rollins on Monday Night Raw next week; only if Sullivan is drafted to Raw.

Lars has made a brilliant debut and he has all the ability in the world to hold his own against someone as experienced as the Architect. Even if he gets a title shot, Lars is likely to lose to Rollins but there is no harm in getting stomped by the face of the company as Sullivan will only get better after that.

While its a long shot for Sullivan to get a chance at winning the Universal Championship, but I for one would love to see him face Rollins as both of them are capable of pulling off an instant classic.

#4 Aleister Black

Another likely challenger in this list is Aleister Black who is currently teamed up with Ricochet and over the last couple of weeks, they have had opportunities at all the Tag Team Titles including the match at WrestleMania 35 for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

Although Black and Ricochet form a brilliant tag team, it's only a matter of time before these two talented superstars go their separate ways and that could happen next week in the Superstar Shake-up.

If Black gets drafted to Raw, he should be given a match against Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship as the former has proved himself to be a great champion during his NXT days.

Just like Sullivan, Black may also lose his match but this match would get him off on the right foot in front of the WWE Universe and groom him for years to come. It's a long shot, but a possible one, and no doubt these two brilliant athletes will put on a classic for the WWE fans.

#3 AJ Styles

the Phenomenal One
the Phenomenal One

This is another maybe proposition, but considering the hints given to us by the WWE, AJ Styles could possibly be heading out of the house that he built. Styles has been with SmackDown Live for quite some time now and its time the Phenomenal One moved away from the blue brand.

Also, AJ Styles vs Seth Rollins is a dream match for many WWE fans and rightly so, as these two can bring the house down on any given day.

With Styles and Rollins being on different brands, the hopes of having this match are currently low but if the Phenomenal One moves to Raw in the superstar Shake-up, WWE should definitely give this match a green light as both these superstars can produce the match of the year candidate if they compete in the near future.

#2 Roman Reigns

the Big Dog
the Big Dog

Even before you started to read this article, you would have probably guessed that Roman Reigns would drop by in this list somewhere and he is the 2nd favorite to face his Shield buddy Seth Rollins for that Universal Championship.

Reigns and Rollins share brilliant chemistry with each other and it can be seen in every match that they have had with each other and even for Vince McMahon, this matchup is almost too tempting to hold off.

Also, Reigns never got an opportunity to get his Universal title back when he relinquished it to fight with Leukemia. All these factors state that the Big Dog should really be one of the favorites to face Rollins for the Universal Championship.

#1 Drew McIntyre

 the Scottish Psychopath

Even after being beaten by Roman Reigns on the grandest stage of them all, McIntyre is the favorite face Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship and there are also many talks about the Scottish Psychopath being the next challenger for the Architect.

McIntyre vs Rollins is another dream feud and its a proper heal vs babyface battle and if this match takes place, except the WWE Universe to be absolutely engaged into it.

Also, Pitting McIntyre against Rollins makes more sense as this would get the WWE Universe behind Rollins even more and it would only help in setting up the Architect as the face of the red brand.

Vince McMahon has some big decisions to make when it comes to who would be the next challenger for the current Universal Champion but he has bigger decisions to make in the Superstar Shake-up next week.
