Former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan has been away from WWE for over three months, last wrestling on SmackDown in June. He faced AJ Styles for the vacant Intercontinental Championship on the Blue brand, a match which he lost.

Bryan has since been away, mainly due to his wife, WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella, giving birth to the couple's second child, in August. The SmackDown Superstar revealed earlier this year that WWE were going to give him six weeks off as paternity leave, which would have ended by now.

Bryan is now reportedly a part of the SmackDown creative team backstage, although the last report about him revealed that he has not returned to WWE yet. WWE could pull off a surprise by bringing him back for this weekend's Clash of Champions pay-per-view, to set up a match for the future.

At this Sunday's pay-per-view, Intercontinental Championship will be on the line, where Jeff Hardy will defend his title against two recent former champions, AJ Styles and Sami Zayn. Zayn and Styles have had their run-ins with Bryan, and this could be a great way to add Bryan into the mix, to potentially set-up a fatal four-way match between the four for a big pay-per-view, like Survivor Series.
