5 unlikely teams that could compete for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships

The women's tag team championships were unveiled last night on RAW

Last night's episode of RAW finally saw the unveiling of the Women's Tag Team Championships during a very special edition of Alexa Bliss' 'A Moment of Bliss' segment with the inaugural holders being crowned at Elimination Chamber.

Three teams from RAW and three teams from SmackDown Live are set to battle it out inside the Elimination Chamber to crown the champions - but is it all so clear cut or are we going to see some surprises?

Well, if you want to know what traditional choices could emerge as inaugural Women's Tag Team Champions, then read here. If not, keep reading for some shocks!

We all know WWE loves throwing together unlikely double acts, or moulding two distinct singles stars to make a team - a la Sheamus and Cesaro becoming "The Bar" after their best of seven series ended in a stalemate and the pair going on to become Tag Team Champions and one of the most dominant teams in WWE today.

We all know WWE likes to be unpredictable, and wrestling's at its best when it's unpredictable, so let's take a look at the other options.

So why wouldn't two female singles stars be thrown together to win the titles when they're implemented? Well, simple answer, they most likely will.

#5 Natalya and Dana Brooke

One intriguing teaming I've always thought would be great was Natalya and Dana Brooke. I mean, they already have the look - both are blonde women wearing leather/transparent black ring attire - and they have put on great matches against one another in the past, so let's team them up!

Dana Brooke is maybe one of WWE's most underutilised stars right now and has frequently protested that she wants more in-ring time. I think she's vastly underrated in the ring and has proven her worth when it comes to entertainment, especially at the helm of Titus Worldwide last year.

One could say Natalya is equally as underutilized - having only held the Divas Championship and the Women's Championship one time each.

Natalya is one of the most technically sound workers in WWE and still garners a great crowd reaction, not to mention is one of the veterans of the game, even helping train Ronda Rousey among others. Teaming her with Brooke, one of WWE's underrated talents in the ring could be a masterstroke!

#4 Nikki Cross and Ruby Riott

This would be interesting!
This would be interesting!

Okay, so let's get this out of the way first - Ruby Riott is the leader of the Riott Squad, I know. This one is pretty unlikely at most, but it would be super cool.

In fact, without Ruby, the faction's probably not even called the Riott Squad.

There's every chance Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan wrestle in the tag team division with Ruby as a singles competitor - or the trio compete even under Freebird Rules - but let's fantasy book this one for a second.

Imagine how unpredictable this pair would be together in the ring! Riott may be one of WWE's secret weapons - putting in an incredible performance in a Gauntlet Match where she finished runner up to Sasha Banks, as well as pinning Charlotte within her first year.

Sadly, an injury put an abrupt end to that, but she's back on television and establishing dominance yet again, but may be a long way off holding the solo gold - particularly with a certain Ronda Rousey at the helm of the single's division.

Meanwhile, Nikki Cross defines "unpredictable" - with her crazed persona and unique in-ring style. Cross has honed her craft in NXT while her SAnitY buddies have transitioned to SmackDown. Cross, though, has been called up and looks like she may very well be on the red brand going forward, away from her old faction mates.

This pair together would give any team a test!

#3 Alexa Bliss and Liv Morgan

The pair share a fair few similarities
The pair share a fair few similarities

Okay, I swear I'm not trying to break up The Riott Squad, I promise.

I think any duo from Riott, Morgan, and Logan (or all three) would be great Tag Team Champions - and, had I written this a year ago, Bliss and Nia Jax would have to be one of the favourites for the tournament. That pair could always reconcile - but that looks very unlikely given their very personal rivalry this year.

I should mention that Bliss hasn't performed in the ring for a while due to injury and, while she's recovering and training at the Performance Center, Elimination Chamber may come too soon - but ever since her main roster debut, Bliss has taken the WWE Universe by storm with her incredible ring work. Not to mention, she's arguably the best promo in the company along with Paul Heyman.

Meanwhile, Liv Morgan's been a bit part player and hasn't really gotten off the ground when it comes to gathering momentum in the ring. She's a vital part of the Riott Squad, but going out on her own or teaming with Bliss could propel her to the next echelon.

These two pocket rockets stand at 5'1 and 5'3 respectively and have incredibly similar looks - not to mention both play incredible heel characters. Pair up Morgan and Bliss, and you've got an incredibly exciting prospect for the belts!

#2 Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler

Well, this one might be the most predictable on the list, but with Rousey currently holding the Raw Women's Championship, it is a bit of a wildcard shout. This one may require Rousey doing double duty or dropping her title - and a massive NXT call-up.

While Natalya may be the more likely partner if Rousey is in contention for a tag division role, Baszler could be perfect for long-term storytelling. Ronda Rousey is by far the biggest name to make the switch from UFC to WWE, but the NXT Women's Champion made that same journey before her friend.

As Rousey has been learning how to ply her craft in WWE in front of the world, Shayna Baszler learned behind closed doors and has been honing her craft between the yellow ropes ever since - even claiming the runner-up spot in the Mae Young Classic with Rousey watching in the front row.

When Baszler won the NXT Women's Championship at TakeOver, Rousey was there to congratulate her backstage. Now, if WWE really wanted to go all in with this pair, give them the Tag Team Championships, then let Baszler turn on Ronda Rousey to set up the ultimate UFC fighter turned WWE Superstar rivalry!

#1 Trish Stratus and Lita

Two true icons of wrestling
Two true icons of wrestling

And this one would be shocking, but not too unlikely given their performance at Evolution.

Trish Stratus and Lita may have wrestled their last match in WWE, but they looked every bit as great as they did in their prime, and a dominant tag team performance at Evolution could just see this pair in line for a return to the fray and holding the gold.

The pop would be huge for a return of both, and they arguably may have even kicked off the current Women's Revolution back during the Attitude Era. A win would be fitting!

With neither missing a beat or looking a day older, what WWE may just have on their hands with this pairing is two Hall of Famers to hold the titles and then give some current stars a huge win when they drop the belts.
