A WWE ring can be a dangerous place to be.

Obviously, as a Superstar, there is always the risk of a career-threatening injury, and even if things do go according to plan, you should expect to take some serious bruises when you step between the ropes.

As if that wasn't bad enough, there have been some matches so colossal, that the ring itself hasn't been able to hold them.

Whether it be due to the size of the Superstars, outside interference or a quest for championship gold, there have been some matches that have seen the ring destroyed in the competitor's quest for victory.

Here are five WWE matches that broke the ring, and the Superstars who are responsible for doing just that.

#5: Edge Vs. The Undertaker (Summerslam 2008)

Edge wasn't seen for months after being sent through the ring and consumed by fire.
Edge wasn't seen for months after being sent through the ring and consumed by fire.

This may be a bit of a cheat, as this infamous ring-break didn't take place during the match, but moments after.

After banishing The Undertaker from WWE, the Rated-R Superstar was riding high, and was about to ascend to even more power by marrying SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero. A quick affair with Alicia Fox un-did all that, as Guerrero retaliated by reinstating The Undertaker, and having the two Superstars battle inside Hell in A Cell.

Meeting at Summerslam, Edge would try his best to topple the Deadman again, but would eventually come up short. Post-match, Undertaker would deliver his own unique brand of punishment, Chokeslamming Edge off of a ladder, through the ring.

And if that wasn't bad enough, the Deadman would fill the hole in the ring with fire, as it'd be months until Edge would resurface on WWE TV again.

#4: Big Show Vs. Braun Strowman (Monday Night RAW. April 17, 2017)

When you're a relatively new Superstar like Braun Strowman in 2017, how do you establish yourself? Well in the Monster Among Men's case, you do so by going after a true legend of the squared circle: The Big Show.

During the bout, Strowman showed some incredible agility for a man his size, kipping up at one point, but that couldn't hide the fact that the two Superheavyweights were, well, Superheavyweights!

In the climax of the bout, the pair travelled to the top rope, and as Strowman delivered a Superplex to the former World Champion, the ring buckled under all that mass. In a rematch, Strowman would topple the Big Show thanks to a reinforced ring, and proved to everyone that there was a new monster in WWE.

#3: Bret 'Hitman' Hart Vs. Diesel (WWF In Your House 6)

Two of the biggest stars of the WWF New Generation, Bret Hart and Diesel may have a lot of differences (namely their size), but the two shared a desire for the WWF Championship,

Meeting at the sixth In Your House event in February 1996, the pair engaged in an epic war over the title, confined inside a Steel Cage. Though the structure was intended to keep out anyone who would aim to interfere, there was one force the WWF executives hadn't counted on:

The Undertaker.

During the match, the Phenom would appear, cutting through the ring mat itself, and would drag Big Daddy Cool to hell below. This convenient interference would allow Bret to retain the gold, meaning he would face off against Shawn Michaels the following month at WrestleMania XII.

#2: Cactus Jack Vs. Triple H (No Way Out 2000)

Despite 'retiring' Foley would live his dream and main event WrestleMania.

After coming up short against Triple H at the Royal Rumble, it seemed like Mick Foley's dream of main-eventing WrestleMania was over.

That was until Foley, competing under the Cactus Jack persona, was given another shot at the Game's WWF title, but had to put his career on the line to do so. Meeting inside Hell in a Cell no less, the pair waged a war, and eventually found themselves on top of the Satanic structure.

With flashbacks to the infamous fall at King of the Ring 1998, the Game was able to get the advantage, as a back-body drop sent Foley through the steel roof, and through the ring below.

Foley may have lost the bout, but would prove to everyone why he'll always be the Hardcore Legend.

#1: Big Show Vs. Brock Lesnar (SmackDown. June 12, 2003)

Show and Lesnar demolished the SmackDown Ring in June 2003.
Show and Lesnar demolished the SmackDown Ring in June 2003.

The most iconic ring-break in WWE history, this classic bout saw a young (and face) Brock Lesnar, take on the seven-foot Big Show.

The pair certainly had history, as it was Show who took the WWE title off Lesnar at the previous year's Survivor Series, handing Lesnar his first pinfall loss, albeit with help from Paul Heyman.

During the SmackDown match, the pair climbed to the top turnbuckle and as Lesnar used his freakish strength to Superplex the big man, the ring collapsed under the weight of both men crashing down.

As fans and commentators looked on in shock, the ring-break was a true shocking end to the bout, and though it has been replicated a few times in the 16 years since, none did quite like Show and Brock.
