5 WWE superstars and their Premier League club counterparts

WWE superstars want to win titles and Premier League clubs want to win titles. What a surprising similarity!

Despite the fundamental differences between professional wrestling and football (soccer for all you Americans) – such as one being scripted while the other is not and one being mostly about individuals while the other is a team game – there are quite a few similarities between the two sports as well.

For example, the WWE and the Premier League are the two most widely watched “leagues” in their respective fields. It’s where the most amount of money is present and it is what fans across the world tune in for week in and week out.

Even when it comes to the competitors themselves, there are a number of similarities between in-ring competitors i.e the wrestlers and the Premier League clubs which contest for the right to be called champions of England.

So, let’s get into those comparisons. Without any further ado, here are 5 WWE superstars and their Premier League club counterparts:

#5 John Cena and Manchester United

He’s basically United in human form

John Cena is the most decorated superstar in WWE history with his joint-record 16 World Titles. He is also the poster boy of the company and one of the most widely recognised names to ever emerge from the world of wrestling.

Manchester United are the most decorated club in English history with their record 20 English Titles. They are the poster club of the Premier League and one of the most widely recognised names to ever emerge from the world of football.

Seeing the similarities? It’s not just that, either. Both parties have suffered a little as of late as Cena has slowly but surely slid out of the title picture much like Manchester United have after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Both Cena and United are also getting ready to challenge for their respective crowns once again in the near future.

#4 Roman Reigns and Manchester City

Who’s hated more? Reigns or City?

Roman Reigns is perhaps the most hated man in all of professional wrestling but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that he is an intensely talented wrestler who was been to the top of the mountain and is looking to do so again in the near future.

Manchester City are one of the most hated clubs in all of English football but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that they are an intensely talented team who have been to the top of the mountain and are looking to do so again in the near future.

I think you can see a pattern emerging here. It doesn’t stop there. Both Roman’s fans and City fans are an extremely loyal bunch who always stick up for their favourite wrestler/team regardless of how many people are against them.

With Pep Guardiola in charge of City and Reigns being given the honour of retiring The Undertaker, don’t be surprised to see both parties win titles again in the near future.

#3 Shawn Michaels and Liverpool

Both Michaels and Liverpool haven’t won a title in years

Shawn Michaels was one of the most talented in-ring professionals of all-time and has achieved legendary status during his time with the WWE. Unfortunately for The Heart Break Kid, he slid out of the title picture in the noughties and never won as much as he should’ve.

Liverpool are one of the most talented football teams of all-time and have achieved legendary status during their time dominating the English league. Unfortunately for the Merseyside club, they have slid out of the title picture in the noughties and never won as much as they should’ve.

Unless they change something very very soon, Liverpool will also end up fading into legend as Michaels has. Everyone will respect their accomplishments as one of the best to have ever participated but people will know that they will never return to the top.

#2 Bray Wyatt and Tottenham Hotspur

Wonder what sort of world we would be living in where Wyatt and Tottenham both fulfil their potential

Bray Wyatt is the perennial underachiever of the WWE who for some reason never seems to fulfil his potential. He has tremendous charisma and is full of style but seems to lack that X-factor which makes good wrestlers great.

Tottenham Hotspur are the perennial underachievers of the English league who for some reason never seem to fulfil their potential. They have amazing chemistry and are full of style but seem to lack that X-factor which makes good teams great.

Wyatt ascended to the top but almost immediately lost his title to Randy Orton while Tottenham have always played second fiddle to the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. Both Wyatt and Tottenham, though, are young and have plenty of time to channel that natural talent and hone their mental skills in order to take that next step to superstardom soon.

At the moment, though, both are seen as something of a running joke who are not able to close the deal.

#1 Randy Orton and Chelsea

Will Chelsea also win a title like Randy just did at Wrestlemania?

In recent memory, Randy Orton has been the second most dominant wrestler in the WWE behind John Cena. He has won all that there is to win and has shown no signs of slowing down except for a hiccup last year that saw him badly bruised.

In recent memory, Chelsea have been the second most dominant football club in the Premier League behind Manchester United. They have won all that there is to win and have shown no signs of slowing down except for a hiccup last year that saw them badly bruised.

Both of them are back to their very best now, though, and Chelsea look set to follow in Orton’s footsteps and regain the crown. Love them or hate them, both Chelsea and Orton almost always get the job done.
