To hold championship gold is the aim of every Superstar who enters WWE.

Not just a huge feel-good moment, winning a championship means your name is etched in history, and that no matter how many champions may come after you, your legacy has been immortalized.

In the WWE, there are plenty of titles to go around, with the company recently introducing the Women's Tag Team Championships, which will be awarded at the Elimination Chamber.

But some Superstars have taken their love for the gold even further, winning more titles than anyone else in the company's history.

Here are the five WWE Superstars with the most championship wins in the company's history.

Note: Due to the nature of the 24/7 rule, we will not be including Hardcore championship changes.

#5 Christian (19)

In 2011, Captain Charisma finally captured the World Heavyweight Championship, winning the title in a TLC Match.
In 2011, Captain Charisma finally captured the World Heavyweight Championship, winning the title in a TLC Match.

Bursting on the scene in 1998 as the kayfabe brother of Edge, Christian always seemed to play second fiddle to his far more popular tag team partner.

But with a whopping 19 championships under his belt, Captain Charisma certainly had a Hall of Fame-worthy career in his own right.

Things certainly started strong for the Canadian, who won the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship in his very first match against Taka Michinoku.

From there, Christian would win an incredible nine tag team championships, the majority of which with the Rated-R Superstar, before venturing out on his own.

As a singles star, Christian would win the European and Intercontinental Championships, before returning in 2009, and holding the ECW Championship twice.

Winning the World Heavyweight title on two occasions in 2011, Captain Charisma may want to change his name to Captain Champion.

#4 Triple H (23)

Triple H was drafted to SmackDown in 2008 as WWE Champion.
Triple H was drafted to SmackDown in 2008 as WWE Champion.

Whilst he may now be a part-time Superstar, and focussing more on the expansion of WWE and NXT around the world, Triple H is certainly no stranger to championship gold.

Winning the Intercontinental Title not long after his 1995 debut, the Game would hold the title on five occasions, as well as the European championship twice.

Despite being known as a singles star, the King of Kings was no stranger to working in a team, holding tag gold twice with some impressive partners: Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin.

The Game is perhaps best known for his world championship wins, holding the WWE Championship on nine occasions during his incredible career, and is a five-time World Heavyweight Champion.

With King of the Ring and two rumble wins as well, Triple H was a true master of the game.

#3 Chris Jericho (24)

Nearly 18 years after his first title win, Jericho would win the US Title in 2017.
Nearly 18 years after his first title win, Jericho would win the US Title in 2017.

He may be a part of All Elite Wrestling now, but Chris Jericho did plenty during his time with WWE.

Famously interrupting The Rock in 1999, Jericho has held a total 24 championships throughout his years with the company.

Capturing his first of nine Intercontinental Championships not long after his debut, the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla would capture other mid-card titles, including the United States Championship twice, and a brief one-day reign as European Champion after WrestleMania 2000.

A multiple-time tag team champion, Jericho would reach the promised land in 2001, winning the WCW Championship, and become the first-ever Undisputed Champion in December that year.

Whilst it remains unclear whether fans will see Jericho in a WWE ring ever again, expect the 48-year-old to be willing to do what it takes to hold gold again.

#2 John Cena (25)

Cena is a record-tying 16-time World Champion, an accolade he shares with Ric Flair.

Arguably the greatest Superstar in WWE history, John Cena's career has been defined by his 16 World Championship reigns, a record only tied by Ric Flair.

Winning his first world championship at WrestleMania 21, the Superstars who have lost a world title to him reads like a who's who: JBL, Edge, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Chris Jericho and more.

Outside of the main event, Cena has also held four tag titles, with four different partners (Shawn Michaels, Batista, The Miz and David Otunga), though none of these reigns lasted very long.

A four-time United States Champion, Cena first held the star-spangled strap at WrestleMania 20, toppling The Big Show to do so, and when you factor in his two Royal Rumble and multiple WrestleMania main events, Big Match John has certainly lived up to his name.

#1 Edge (31)

Edge won his first WWE Championship at New Year's Revolution in 2006.
Edge won his first WWE Championship at New Year's Revolution in 2006.

He may have often come up short against John Cena through their years of feuding, but Edge can boast that he is the most decorated champion in WWE history.

Debuting in 1998, Edge would get his first taste of gold in a huge upset, defeating Jeff Jarrett for the Intercontinental Championship at a house show in Toronto, Canada.

Teaming with Christian, the pair would hold the tag team titles multiple times, dazzling fans with the Hardyz and the Dudleyz in their TLC escapades.

Going solo in late 2001, it would be just over four years later, that the master of the Spear would win his first of eleven World Championships, and would hold the Intercontinental and WCW United States Championships along the way.

With a shorter in-ring career than everyone else on this list, who knows what would've come if Edge hadn't been forced into retirement in 2011.
