The (double) champ is here!
The (double) champ is here!

Seth Rollins is not the only world champion to win the Tag Team Championship with his (supposed) title challenger. This has been a common trope in Babyface vs Babyface feuds, with the two friendly foes working together to claim the tag titles. It is a pretty lazy way to build a feud between two good guys, as it compromises proper storytelling for all involved. Seth Rollins vs Braun Strowman has the potential to tell a really good story, but here we are.

Nevertheless, it has served to inflate one's championship shelf. The biggest example of this came when John Cena and Shawn Michaels won the World Tag Team Championships from Randy Orton and Edge, in 2007, as they were heading towards their WWE Championship main event at WrestleMania 23. This victory made Cena a double champion heading into the Show of Shows.

Other superstars have won tag team gold during their world title reigns, but the 16-time WWE Champion is the only one to enter WrestleMania with that combination of belts. Cena has only ever won the WWE Tag Team Championship alongside people he was feuding with, including a later entry on this list.
