There is no doubt that out of all of the WWE Superstars, nobody has had a more dramatic 2020 than Otis. His first full year on the main roster was as one half of Heavy Machinery, a tag team that got lost in the shuffle and failed to capture either the Tag Team Championships on RAW and SmackDown.

However, by the end of 2019, Otis entered into a storyline with Mandy Rose, which stemmed from the Golden Goddess giving him a Christmas present, stating that she was his ‘Secret Santa’.

He then pursued Rose for several months, which subsequently led to a feud between himself and Rose's other love interest, Dolph Ziggler. Both Ziggler and Sonya Deville tried to ruin Otis's chances of being in a relationship with Rose. This led to a match at WrestleMania 36, which Otis won, marking his first WrestleMania moment at the same time.

The pair continued to date for several months showing skits and vignettes of their ongoing relationship. However, The Miz became obsessed with Otis’ Money in the Bank contract. This marked the beginning of Otis’ downfall when The Miz got Mandy Rose traded to RAW in September.

While The Miz having enough influence to get anyone traded to another brand is a perplexing storyline itself, the bigger problem is the fact that it was announced by WWE commentators that Otis and Mandy's relationship ended immediately because they were on different brands.

If there’s one thing in WWE that we know to be true, it’s that couples don’t need to split up just because they’re working for different brands. In 2019, Montez Ford went to RAW while Bianca Belair stayed on NXT. Jimmy Uso was drafted to SmackDown, and Naomi went to RAW in the 2020 Draft.

Even though the key difference in these cases is that these are real-life couples, the fact remains that their relationships are publicly acknowledged by WWE, which makes this both a flummoxing and contradicting end to a storyline they put so much time into.

In addition to this, the 19th October 2020 episode of RAW showed Rose and Otis sharing an intimate moment backstage. Otis disguised himself as El Gran Gordo earlier in the show, clearly indicating their storyline had not ended.

However, shortly afterward, commentator Michael Cole continued to tell the WWE Universe on SmackDown that they were still broken up, solely due to what The Miz did.

Whatever the outcome was, the WWE Universe is owed both a better and less confusing ending to the storyline than what was given.
