9 WWE superstars most likely to win the Royal Rumble match

The Royal Rumble match

The Royal Rumble match is one of the most unpredictable matches in WWE history where 30 men from RAW and SmackDown compete to see who will earn a main event title shot at WrestleMania. It is indeed one of the most exciting matches in the WWE.

As much as it is fun to watch the match, it is equally fun to predict who will win the Royal Rumble match. Hence, we’ve prepared a list of 9 wrestlers who could win the Royal Rumble match and go on to headline WrestleMania this year.

9 Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley has been on a roll since turning heel. He has been wreaking havoc and laying waste to anyone who gets in his way. Lashley was one of the biggest superstars in TNA, and WWE must’ve brought him back for a specific reason.

Since his return to WWE, he has been stuck in the mid cards and hasn’t been involved in many noteworthy feuds. Considering the fact that it is WrestleMania season, now would be the perfect time to kickstart Lashley’s push.

WWE could have him win the Royal Rumble match and go on to WrestleMania where he will face either Braun Strowman or Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. This could make for a very interesting match at WrestleMania which will help boost ticket sales.

#8 Finn Balor

Finn Balor

Finn Balor debuted on the main roster in impressive fashion and was pushed into the limelight immediately. Within a month of his arrival on RAW, Balor won the Universal Championship. However, a sudden injury during his Universal Championship match against Seth Rollins derailed his push.

When he returned, he was a shadow of his former self. He failed to climb the ranks and wasn’t used properly. He spent the next year battling in the mid cards without gaining any notoriety. Despite his poor booking, Balor has still managed to garner much attention among the WWE universe.

Therefore, it would make perfect sense to have him win the Royal Rumble match and challenge for the WWE Championship instead of the Universal Championship. Finn Balor’s Road to WrestleMania could also be the road to the top of the mountain.

#7 Samoa Joe

Unlike Finn Balor, Samoa Joe did receive quite a strong push in 2018 even challenging for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. However, the ’Samoan Submission Machine’ failed to win any major title since arriving on the main roster.

Joe has the gimmick and is more than capable of drawing a reaction from the crowd. He also possesses great in-ring and mic skills which means his time is not too far away. WWE have probably been considering pushing him for quite a while now.

The Royal Rumble may seem like the perfect time to do something noteworthy with Samoa Joe by having him win the Royal Rumble match and challenge for either the WWE or Universal Championship at WrestleMania.

#6 John Cena

John Cena

While John Cena may seem like the most unlikely candidate to win the Royal Rumble match, you never know with WWE. Cena is just one title win away from breaking Ric’s Flair’s record of most World Title wins.

As we all know, Cena is wrestling on borrowed time and may soon hang up his boots for good. Hence, WWE might consider giving him one last hurrah with the title before he rides off into the sunset. The Royal Rumble could be the perfect time to do so by having Cena win the Royal Rumble match and headline WrestleMania for one final time.

#5 Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins hasn’t been his best since being betrayed by Dean Ambrose. There have been multiple occasions where Ambrose has gotten the better of Rollins. The Architect eventually lost his Intercontinental title to Ambrose at TLC.

Looking back at the past few weeks, maybe there could’ve been some reason as to why Rollins dropped his IC title. Maybe WWE has something bigger planned for him at WrestleMania. The former Intercontinental Champion has been one of WWE’s workhorses in recent years and since Roman Reigns is out indefinitely, WWE may be looking at Seth Rollins to replace him.

With the Royal Rumble match just around the corner, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have Rollins win it and face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania (assuming Brock wins his match against Braun Strowman). Remember, Seth Rollins won his first WWE Championship belt by cashing in his money in the bank contract against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.

This could be the final chapter in that story and what better place to end it than the place where it began - WrestleMania.

#4 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens has been out due to injury for a couple of months. When he left, Owens was one of the hottest stars on the roster. Therefore when he returns, he is expected to pick up right where he left off.

We have witnessed so many superstars return from an injury and win the Royal Rumble match as a surprise entrant. Wrestlers such as John Cena, Edge, and Triple H returned from an injury and won the Royal Rumble match.

Hence, if ‘The Prizefighter’ does return at the Royal Rumble, history may repeat itself as he may most likely win the 30-man event and will go on to headline WrestleMania.

#3 Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre has been touted as the future of this company. His recent booking has been carefully calculated to make McIntyre appear as an absolute beast in the ring. Since his return to WWE, he has stood toe-to-toe with some of the best talent on offer and has been victorious.

Moreover, ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ has been able to draw huge heat from the crowd which works in his favor.

Though he is currently feuding with Dolph Ziggler and Finn Balor, McIntyre has to be one of WWE creative’s favorite picks to win the Royal Rumble match. He also has the size to match up to someone like Brock Lesnar or Braun Strowman.

Drew McIntyre’s push is imminent, but whether he gets his push now is left to be seen.

#2 The Miz

The Miz
The Miz

The Miz has been one of the most improved WWE Superstars of the last decade. Ever since his first WWE title reign, The Miz has worked hard to get back to the main event scene, but for years he has remained one of WWE’s best mid-card wrestlers. The Miz has even become one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all-time over the years.

He even possesses the mic skills to talk circles around most of the main eventers. His ring work has also improved significantly and he is more than capable of keeping the fans engaged. His character and gimmick have evolved over the years.

But the real question is whether this justifies a main event push. Yes, it does. The Miz has elevated the Intercontinental Title and he could do the same for the WWE Championship. Plus, The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan would make for an interesting match at WrestleMania (assuming that Bryan defeats AJ Styles).

Though The Miz is currently in some sort of weird storyline with Shane McMahon where he’s trying to get Shane to be his tag team partner, there isn’t much longevity in it and WWE will probably scrap it soon.

#1 The Rock

The Rock
The Rock

The Rock has long been rumored to return to the squared circle and those rumors have resurfaced again. This time rumors indicate that The Rock will most likely return at the Royal Rumble and will win the Royal Rumble match itself.

This will allow ‘The Great One’ to have one last run at WrestleMania. It seems unlikely that he will return given his busy schedule, but if he enters the Royal Rumble match, then expect him to walk out the victor.

If The Rock wins, he will probably headline WrestleMania against Brock Lesnar (if Brock defeats Braun Strowman) which will make for a good match since the last time these two men fought, Brock emerged victorious. Moreover, The Rock’s presence at WrestleMania will be enough to boost ticket sales.
