AJ Lee hasn't been seen on WWE television since 2015 and many fans are still hoping for her eventual return, especially after her husband CM Punk did so last year. However, it looks like only that Stamford-based promotion is interested in a return for the time being.
AJ Lee's final wrestling match occurred on RAW's March 30, 2015, episode, where she teamed with Naomi and Saraya (formerly Paige) to defeat Natalya and The Bella Twins. The following month, AJ announced her retirement from in-ring competition. She later revealed that her decision was influenced by injuries and the tension surrounding CM Punk's controversial departure from WWE in 2014.
Years later, her husband fixed bridges with the Stamford-based promotion and is doing much better backstage after returning in 2023, prompting many to hope AJ can come back soon as well. As it turns out, even the company is hoping for her return.
On a recent Backstage Pass Live Q&A with WrestleVotes and Bill Apter, a viewer asked if fans can expect AJ to return anytime soon. WrestleVotes shared that only Lee and Punk know the answer to it at the moment, but the company will welcome her wholeheartedly if she decides to do so.

"The answer to that is as far as I know, WWE is totally on board for it, they would welcome it. She picks up the phone, she says 'I'm in,' they're going to say 'yes, what took you so long?' I would say the only two people that probably know that answer are AJ Lee and CM Punk, and whatever that answer may be, it's up to them so we'll see." (From 20:20 to 20:37)
Lee returned to the wrestling industry in 2021 where she joined Women of Wrestling as an executive producer, then provided color commentary the following year. In 2023, she departed the company. She also played a wrestling character named Elle Dorado in the television series "Heels."
Can AJ Lee still technically return to WWE despite her injuries?
Neck injuries are possibly one of the most vicious injuries superstars can suffer from and they have ended several careers. Fortunately for the former Divas Champion, her case may not be that serious.
In October 2021, AJ Lee shared that she had fully recovered from the physical, mental, and emotional challenges she faced during her wrestling career. While she mentioned that she could "technically do it" if she wanted to return, Lee emphasized that she preferred the spotlight to remain on the newer generation of talent. The veteran stated that she had already accomplished everything she set out to do and felt the current roster didn’t need her involvement.
It remains to be seen if fans will see AJ Lee on WWE television again.
