Best and worst of AEW Dynamite after Full Gear- Cody demolished by debuting star; Chris Jericho loses Championship match

AEW: Full Gear saw some shocking results with a brutal main event match and a heel turn in the Championship bout, with Cody losing his ability to ever challenge for Chris Jericho's AEW World Championship again.

This week's AEW Dynamite saw the fall-out from Full Gear, as there was a rematch between AEW Full Gear opponents, 'Hangman' Adam Page and PAC. There was also a tag team match between Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara and SoCal Uncensored.

This week's show also saw a debut on AEW Dynamite, as Cody was decimated.

As a bonus best, I should mention that the brawl between The Young Bucks and Santana & Ortiz was exactly what was needed.

Without any further ado, let's head straight into it.

#1 Best: Jon Moxley vs Darby Allin set up for next week

AEW Dynamite following AEW: Full Gear got off to a great start as it was Jon Moxley who opened the show himself. He faced Nakazawa in a short and simple match and was able to win, before putting up an open challenge to anyone in the roster to face him.

He did not have to wait long. Later in the night, Darby Allin won his Triple Threat match against Shawn Spears and Peter Avalon and immediately took to the mic to say that he accepted Jon Moxley's challenge. As a result, the two will be battling each other on next week's AEW Dynamite.

This is an extremely interesting match for AEW to build up, as despite both being hugely popular babyfaces at the moment, Dean Ambrose and Darby Allin are loved for their brutal style of wrestling in the ring.

While Moxley reaffirmed his title as the current King of Hardcore at AEW Full Gear in his match against Kenny Omega, Darby Allin is certainly someone who seems to enjoy the pain that comes with more aggressive matches. Even his finishing move, the Coffin Drop is one which puts his whole life at risk every time he uses it.

Pairing these two together promises quite the show for the AEW fandom.

#2 Worst: Chris Jericho and MJF promo

Chris Jericho and MJF are possibly two of the best wrestlers in the world at the moment when it comes to delivering promos. Both performers are excellent on the mic and have been known to cut many an opponent down to size in the ring, with only their words.

So, when the two were standing across the ring from each other, what the audience expected was straight-up fire. What they got instead, were the dampened embers of a campfire overnight.

Both Jericho and MJF started off well, with MJF asking Chris Jericho if the Champion wanted him to join The Inner Circle, while Jericho asked MJF whether he wanted to join The Inner Circle.

While this was funny, to begin with, it went on for too long and got rather old, rather fast. They kept on repeating the same line, and the audience was left wondering if they were actually stalling for time. Frankly, substitute any other two members of the roster and this would be considered a good promo, but given who they were, the fans have the right to expect better.

Knowing them, they will get better promos in the future, as this can't be the last time the two share the ring.

#3 Best: Wardlow debuts

Whenever a new Superstar debuts in a promotion, it is always important for it to feel big or shock the audience... well, not in the way that Shockmaster did in his infamous first appearance.

However, AEW managed a perfect debut for one wrestler tonight, as while Cody came out to brawl with Chris Jericho and MJF despite being injured, he was put right in his place immediately, by what appears to be MJF's new muscle — Wardlow.

The brawny Superstar appeared from behind Cody and took him out with a clothesline, before listening to MJF and using his own tie to hang Cody from the ropes.

This debut and his pairing with MJF might be the best thing for Wardlow as it serves three purposes. MJF can be the one to talk and Wardlow does not need to be near a mic immediately, he can be slowly introduced and the audience can become familiar with him, and finally, he was shown to take out Cody. What could be a better beginning for a new Superstar?

#4 Worst: No Riho

While it is obviously never possible to have all the Superstars of the entire roster on the show, it is expected that the Champions will be showing up live, or at least in a video promo.

However, that was not what happened on tonight's AEW Dynamite.

The fans have called AEW's Women's Division the weakest part of the roster, and while I don't quite agree with that, the lack of Riho on tonight's show struck me as odd. Riho is the current AEW Women's Champion and is extremely popular.

After her successful defense over her former teacher, Emi Sakura, at Full Gear, Riho could be safely expected to appear and celebrate or at least set up her next feud. However, that did not happen at all.

Awesome Kong and Brandi Rhodes appeared as they took out Allie and cut off a lock of her hair, and Nyla Rose won her match, but the Women's Champion was nowhere to be seen.

#5 Best/Worst: Chris Jericho pinned by Scorpio Sky

Scorpio Sky pins Chris Jericho
Scorpio Sky pins Chris Jericho

Don't get me wrong, I love Scorpio Sky. Seeing him pin Chris Jericho tonight was definitely a cool moment from tonight's show. However, there is another aspect to this.

Tonight's show saw the AEW World Champion team with Sammy Guevara in his quest to become Double Champion by taking on the AEW Tag Team Champions SCU.

However, they were unsuccessful after an intense match, despite interference from Jake Hager who was present at ringside. Scorpio Sky was able to roll up Chris Jericho to get the pinfall and the win.

While seeing Sky get a big pin definitely suggests AEW's intention of pushing him, it also left a sour taste in the mouths of the fans. Sky might be a bright star, but him being able to pin Jericho when Cody had failed after so much at Full Gear seemed odd. That would not matter if AEW pursues this and sees Sky go for a title match later down the line, but with him holding the AEW Tag Team titles, that too is unlikely to happen.

As a result, the fans are left with their Champion pinned and possibly no fall-out from that.

With all of that said, tonight's Dynamite was another spectacular showing by AEW, for which they deserve full credit.
