WWE Monday Night RAW, 7th January 2014 - 5 talking points

The Captivating progression

The Captivating progression

After a jaw dropping episode of Raw last week, the old school themed edition of Raw had the responsibility of answering some pressing questions.

And the creative seems to be on a gold run at the moment as they pulled off another magnificent show to wipe off their previous mistakes. The adding of the legends into all the crevices added more intensity to the proceedings.

The matches turned out to be solid while there were many promos which reminded us of some old school microphone tactics. Brock Lesnar showed up again, Roman Reigns went against CM Punk, Daniel Bryan showed up with the Wyatt Family and John Cena and Randy Orton picked up from where they left earlier. So there were a lot of things that gave the show many dimension, but here is a look at five talking points which stood out from the rest.

The Animal’s first victim?

Asking for more than what he can chew?

Asking for more than what he can chew?

After suffering a concussion some weeks ago, Alberto Del Rio made his return with a band by defeating Sin Cara, who was carrying a lot of momentum.

But the match didn’t have anything to talk about as all the attention went to what Del Rio said after the match. He mentioned that he will eliminate Batista in the Royal Rumble which propels the value of Del Rio to some height even though Batista is still an invisible presence.

Using Batista’s name as a Launchpad to give Del Rio some spark was a nice touch from the creative and we could see at least a stare off between the two once the Animal makes his return.

The nostalgia

The man who went to hell and came back

The man who went to hell and came back

They say that old is gold; well they knew what they were talking about. A walk down the memory line was the main attraction of this week’s Raw and one must say that the show delivered more than what everyone expected in terms of the nostalgia part.

The show started off with some trade mark Ric Flair and also had the lights of the New age outlaws, Roddy Piper while Too cool did steps in the ring that made The Funkadactyls looks like little amateurs. To cap it off, the master of in-ring psychology and the idol to characters like Bray Wyatt, Jake the Snake Roberts and his Damien showed up as well.

It was a sad reminder of how fortunate that the old fans were to witness such characters and how unfortunate we are to be stuck with the lights of 3MB and Khali. It would be a great thing if the WWE decides to bring back the old school Raw every now and then because it clearly is a ratings puller in terms of business while making the fans sinks in as well.

The short-term target for the Beast

Finally

Finally

By the looks of it Mark Henry seemed to be the man who was destined to keep Brock Lesnar busy till Royal Rumble. When Henry showed up this week the assumptions continued and many even started thinking what kind of match would the two have in Royal Rumble.

Then the creative throwed in their trump card and let Brock break the hand of Henry. And then came the World’s largest athlete in the world. the sheer level of twist that the storyline took was uncalled for as no one expected Big Show to be involved with Lesnar.

Henry is taken to the hospital and Show has the limelight now to show that he still deserves to be in a top storyline in the company. Lesnar is sure to make an example out of the giant but even if it’s for a short run, a credible opponent is going to make Show flourish before the WrestleMania arrives.

Surely the next big thing

The Best from the lot

The Best from the lot

If anyone had doubts about Roman Reigns’ push being halted for his team mates, well think again. With a win over CM Punk Reigns has proven that he is best from the lot.

The break up angle of the Shield is being moved so quickly that we might see them split even before WrestleMania. The much anticipated Wyatt Family- Shield feud might also be dropped to make things much quicker.

As far as Reigns is concerned, the amount of faith that the creative have in him is unparalleled at the moment as he was given a chance to get over using one of the top guns in the company. he is slowly being transformed into a lone wolf and for the fans it’s like the pleasure of seeing a butterfly bursting out from a cocoon.

Bryan going for gold with the Wyatts

Hell yes

Hell yes

As Raw kicked off this week from Baltimore, all the eyes were firmly searching for Daniel Bryan who made a shocking decision last week by joining the Wyatt Family.

And when he finally showed his new face in the light of Bray Wyatt’s lantern, he broke the hearts of many fans who were waiting to chant his favorite phrase. Bryan seemed more aggressive in his match alongside his new family members and there was a never seen before intensity in the way he looked at things.

Bryan is getting a slow transformation into the Wyatts but the major talking points came after the match when Bryan declared about the tag team titles. No one expected him to take such a deviation and certainly no one expected to see Bray Wyatt and Daniel Bryan as a tag team in the crowded division.

The pairing is exciting and worth waiting for. It is to be seen whether WWE decides to give them the gold or sow seeds for Bryan’s apparent fight with his family members.
