A former WWE Champion underwent surgery ahead of the Crown Jewel Premium Live Event. The 32-year-old star recently shared a social media update to provide details about his injury.

The name in question is Legado Del Fantasma's Angel (FKA Angel Garza). The former WWE 24/7 Champion's most recent in-ring appearance was in a losing cause on the October 18 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. He teamed up with stablemate Berto (FKA Humberto Carrillo) to take on A-Town Down Under and The Motor City Machine Guns in a Triple Threat Qualifying Match in the WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament.

Angel Garza took to his Facebook account earlier today to share more details about his surgery. As translated by Post Wrestling, the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion revealed that during a match, he heard a pop and felt like something exploded in his wrist after he landed on his palms. Angel added that he could not do his stretches because of the swelling in his hand.

The Legado Del Fantasma member pointed out he had to undergo surgery to prevent the swelling called ganglion, which had surrounded the main arteries of his wrist, from coming back.

Angel addresses comparisons with WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero

Eddie Guerrero was one of the most popular WWE Superstars of his time. The Latino Heat had a well-decorated career, winning several titles across promotions before his passing in November 2005. Following his sudden demise, wrestling fans have touted many up-and-coming Latin American professional wrestlers as the next Guerrero.

WWE Superstar Angel is one of those names. In an interview with Scott Fishman of TV Insider two years ago, the SmackDown Superstar addressed the comparisons with the former World Champion. He urged wrestling fans to enjoy the action instead of making unnecessary comparisons.

"I don't know if I like second part of things because they always compare you. When I first made my debut, it was here comes the next Eddie [Guerrero]. There is Santos Escobar and the same thing. Stop comparing the characters and enjoy who we are. Comparing characters is fun, but Eddie was Eddie. Nobody is going to be like Eddie. I'm the first Angel. He's the first Humberto. Everyone's unique. It's a matter of doing our thing and building our path. I feel one day people will come into the company, and they'll say, 'Here's the next Humberto. Here's the next Angel,'" he said.

Angel and Berto inked new deals with the Stamford-based company earlier this year. It remains to be seen how long it will take for Angel to return to in-ring action.
