R-Truth's return as Ron Killings is a work, WWE legend says

R-Truth has been the talk of the wrestling world since announcing his WWE exit on June 1. Although his departure was widely reported as legitimate, World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff believes the situation might be a "work."

On June 7, Truth returned to WWE at Money in the Bank to help Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso defeat John Cena and Logan Paul. Two days later, the 53-year-old cut his hair after giving a passionate speech on RAW. He also revealed he would now be known by his real name, Ron Killings.

Bischoff speculated on his 83 Weeks podcast that WWE's higher-ups might have orchestrated Truth's repackaging all along:

"What is a work? It's an act, it's a narrative that's designed to create an emotion, a very specific emotion that advances a storyline. It's a work. It's an angle. By f***ing definition of what it's achieved, and continues to achieve, it's self-defining. It's a work." [8:28 – 9:00]

Truth's exit announcement led to support from co-workers and widespread criticism from fans on social media. WWE audiences also let their voices be heard with chants of "We want Truth!" during television broadcasts.

Eric Bischoff compares R-Truth's return to the nWo

In 1996, Eric Bischoff was in charge of WCW when Hulk Hogan joined forces with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to create the nWo (New World Order) faction.

Using Hall's debut as an example, Bischoff thinks R-Truth and WWE might have tricked fans into believing the current storyline is real:

"Scott Hall comes down through the crowd. 'Wow, never seen that before. That wasn't supposed to happen. This is a shoot. Oh, this isn't a work. This is a shoot.' We had them for, I don't know, maybe a week, two weeks, until people started figuring it out. Probably by the second week. But that was debated, as this is being debated." [12:03 – 12:30]

Bischoff added that social media posts from R-Truth's son, Christopher Killings, made him question his opinion. However, he still thinks the recent on-screen storyline developments might have been planned from the beginning.
