Since 2005 and the birth of Money in the Bank at WrestleMania 21, the annual ladder match now turned PPV is one of the biggest opportunities on the WWE calendar, and being a ladder match, it always makes for plenty of excitement among the WWE Universe. From up and coming stars to main event players, the winners have always been very hard to predict, but one thing is for certain, and that's that the majority of cash ins have been incredible moments.

So with just days to go before Money in the Bank 2019, where 2 superstars will stake their claim to a World Championship by way of this iconic ladder match, we take a look back on one of WWE's greatest concepts and rate the top 5 Money in the Bank cash ins in WWE history.

#5 Dolph Ziggler - RAW 2013

The night after WrestleMania has become one of the biggest on WWE's calendar, with the crowd making for an incredible atmosphere, and while there's been some amazing moments, few have received the pop that this one did. We'll talk about a big cash in at WrestleMania later, and if that one took everyone by surprise, then this one certainly did, with the roof blowing off the stadium when Dolph Ziggler's music hit.

Unlike other cash ins, this one featured a true fight, as Alberto Del Rio, on one leg fought valiantly, even getting Dolph into his cross arm-breaker. But Ziggler fought hard and eventually pinned the reigning World Heavyweight Champion. The crowd went absolutely nuts, with The Miz telling Dolph on an episode of 'Ride Along' that it was the biggest pop he'd ever seen in person, and it's hard to argue. And while Ziggler didn't have an incredible run as Champion, this is a moment we'll never forget.

#4 CM Punk - RAW 2008

CM Punk is the only man in WWE history to win back-to-back Money in the Bank ladder matches at WrestleMania 24 & 25, and it's safe to say that his two cash ins garnered very different reactions. The first of which will be the one to make our list today, as it truly came out of nowhere, because many people in the WWE Universe didn't exactly expect Punk to rise to the top, despite holding that valued briefcase.

After Batista lost the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions to Edge, he made his way to RAW to attack the Champion brutally, and it was Punk who took advantage. Out of nowhere, the Second City Saint made his way to the ring, hit the GTS and pinned Edge, kicking off what would be one of the best careers in recent WWE memory.

#3 Rob Van Dam - ECW One Night Stand 2006

Over the years, Money in the Bank cash ins have become opportunistic, and a way to elevate a heel to new heights. But the second ever cash in was unique because it was the complete opposite to this. Weeks in advance, Mr. Money in the Bank, Rob Van Dam, announced that he'd challenge for the WWE Championship at ECW's One Night Stand, and it was a fantastic move from WWE.

Inside the iconic Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, RVD challenged John Cena in front of the most hostile crowd WWE has ever seen, and it would prove to be a brilliant move. RVD's run came to an end shortly after an unfortunate run in with the law, but on this night, the entire atmosphere was electric, and when Paul Heyman made the pin fall to crown Mr. Monday Night the WWE and ECW Champion, the crowd exploded like we've never seen before.

#2 Edge - New Years Revolution 2006

Money in the Bank began as a WrestleMania match way back in 2005 at 'Mania 21, and after Edge made a shocking cash in on John Cena almost a year later, it was clear that the concept was here to stay. This came after John Cena managed to survive one of the most brutal Elimination Chamber matches in history, and it kick-started the reign of 'The Ultimate Opportunist' as a main event player, establishing what Money in the Bank would mean to the WWE for years.

Edge would go on to become one of the greatest performers in WWE history, and this is exactly the thing that propelled him to do it. Given how he was an upper mid card performer leading into this, it added to the shock. Obviously we've seen some great ones since, but the first was always the most shocking, until the next entry on our list came along.

#1 Seth Rollins - WrestleMania 31

WrestleMania has always been about the biggest moments, rather than the best matches, but in the main event of WrestleMania 31, we managed to see both of them at once. The physical bout between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar was fantastic in every sense of the word, but the entire event was turned on its head when Mr. Money in the Bank came sprinting down the aisle.

Until this point, no one had ever cashed in Money in the Bank on the Grandest Stage Of Them All, which made this all the more shocking, and it had the capacity crowd in Santa Clara going absolutely nuts. Despite being the biggest heel in the company at the time, the fans were completely behind this move, and given everything that went into this moment, it's highly unlikely that a Money in the Bank cash-in will ever top this one.
