WWE veteran R-Truth has reverted to his real name, Ron Killings. A recent report sheds light on the actual reason behind the change.
According to Wrestling Observer, the 53-year-old himself requested the name change as part of his new contract with the global juggernaut. It would be beneficial for the former WWE 24/7 Champion in case he were to leave after his deal runs out. Ron Killings would become an established name, and he could use it outside the promotion:
"Ron Killings did ask for the name change to his real name as part of his new deal as many had suspected. The advantage is that when the new deal ends he will have had TV time as Ron Killings and can then go straight to using that name on indies and for personal appearances." [H/T: f4wonline.com]
R-Truth sent shockwaves across the WWE Universe last week when he announced that he was being released from the wrestling promotion. It was later understood that his contract had expired and he hadn't been offered a new deal.
The news was met with massive backlash from fans, which seemingly led to the veteran signing a new deal and showing up at the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event last night. He attacked John Cena in the main event, resulting in Cody Rhodes pinning the Undisputed WWE Champion to win the event headlining Tag Team Match.
Popular star wants R-Truth to defeat John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship
John Cena defeated Truth in a non-title match last month on Saturday Night's Main Event. However, former AEW star Joey Janela believes the veteran should be the one to dethrone The Cenation Leader.
In a recent X/Twitter update, Janela suggested that John Cena should lose the championship to R-Truth. The 35-year-old noted that the title change could be as historic as Mankind defeating The Rock to win the WWF Championship in 1998.
“R truth should be the one to take the belt off Cena, even if he’s just a transitional champion. There’s never been a better chance to rival the 1998 Mankind Championship win than this, which in my opinion is an all time top 3 Pro Wrestling Moment. Idc if you need 32 run ins and Vince Russo to come back from the crypt, get it done!” Janela wrote.
