After tonight's WWE RAW went off the air, Drew McIntyre came out and attacked Kevin Owens while the latter was going to the back. McIntyre then challenged The Fiend to a match, followed by both Superstars battling it out inside a steel cage. The Fiend retained his Universal title by defeating McIntyre.

On the post-Survivor Series edition of Monday Night RAW, Seth Rollins hinted at a heel turn by berating the RAW roster for its Survivor Series performance. The segment ended with Owens hitting a Stunner on Rollins to a loud pop. The two Superstars met in the main event of the night, which ended in a DQ when The Authors of Pain interfered and attacked Owens. The duo left soon after and Seth Rollins hit a couple of Curb Stomps on a semi-conscious Owens to end the show.

After the show went off air, McIntyre came out and proceeded to attack Owens with a Claymore Kick. As Owens was helped to the back, McIntyre cut a promo and called out Universal Champion The Fiend.

McIntyre and The Fiend fought inside a steel cage, with the Universal title on the line. The latter bagged a win after hitting McIntyre with a Mandible Claw and Sister Abigail. It should be noted that the advertised post-show dark match for tonight's RAW was Seth Rollins vs The Fiend, and it's not known why Rollins was replaced with McIntyre.
