Survivor Series: The Lone Survivor should be a member of the Shield

The Shield

The match card for Survivor Series is not essentially spectacular but there is one match that doesn’t need much of a storyline as much as an entertaining vibe to it. The traditional Survivor Series elimination tag team match. This match continues the tradition of matches that were significant in bringing out a superstar to look like he was the next big thing.

Being the lone survivor of such a tag team match is always considered to be a big deal. It is a guarantee that this superstar will have a lot of momentum moving forward.

One of the many lone survivors in such a match is the Rock. His debut was in such a match where he entered as Rocky Maivia. Rocky Maivia did not live that long. Even though, he was the lone survivor, the character was just not interesting. The gimmick lasted long enough to have Maivia win an Intercontinental Championship but that was it.

‘Rocky Sucks’ are chants that we don’t hear these days or the days of the Attitude Era but those chants were enough to terminate Dwayne Johnson’s first ever gimmick in the WWE.

But out of all that, rose The Rock- A bully who referred to himself in third person. What was originally a heel character soon became so popular that it made Rocky Maivia get lost in the shuffle of memories. The Rock was here and everybody wanted to know what he was up to every week. Then the ‘People’s Champion’ came forth and the rest is extensively documented to be called history.

Since then being a lone Survivor at Survivor Series is something the WWE announcers build up to be a monumental event.

But if the past few years are any indication then winning the traditional bout does not lead to an immediate solution for super stardom. Maybe in a few years the superstars who won might look at these victories as the moment where everything or at least something changed.

Last year Dolph Ziggler became the lone survivor. He won Money In the Bank and this year he cashed it in and received the biggest pop of the year while being successful at it. But in between he was still having losing streaks and lately he’s recovering from being in the doghouse. But anyway, it is safe to say that last year was the year where Ziggler finally moved forward, slowly but steadily.

In previous years there were not many 2 man tag teams who formed an entire team in such a bout. This time The Shield and The Real Americans and the Usos with the Rhodes Brothers are quite frankly entangled together anyway. So a lone survivor coming out of them will most probably not have an immediate turn of fortune in singles event but whoever wins (except Goldust or Mysterio, who are veterans) might just get more attention directed towards to them.

And that is in no way a small achievement. It looks like the heel team might win this bout. And if reports of the WWE management being high on Roman Reigns’ are true then Reigns might just be the man of the moment. Although, that might just trigger tension between the Shield and might lead to a Reigns’ face turn.

Actually, if this match has to have any storyline effect then any member of the shield can win and make it a big deal in the following weeks to build up the tension going on in the team.

But, in all possibility, I hope the break-up of the team is not an immediate event.
