#2 Chris Jericho’s stopgap World title reign ends – 23rd November 2008

Chris Jericho was red-hot in 2008 with his gimmick change into a suit-wearing serious heel persona. Jericho would capture the World Heavyweight title in a Championship Scramble match and would go on to defend his title successfully against Shawn Michaels in a ladder match at the next PPV.

But WWE Creative would be reluctant to get behind Jericho and his title reign was not taken seriously. Jericho would lose the title to Batista in order to promote the Cyber Sunday PPV, even though he would quickly win it back on the 800th episode of Raw.

Any hope of a long title run for Jericho effectively ended when Shane McMahon announced that Jericho would defend the title at Survivor Series against a returning John Cena.

On 23 November 2008, Jericho would lose his title to Cena with the latter not having been on Raw even once to promote the match. Jericho would lose a rematch to Cena at the next Armageddon PPV and was out of the title picture for good.
