#3. CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar: Summerslam 2013

This match signified a fight that was taking place inside the WWE. CM Punk felt isolated inside WWE in the second half of 2013 in a fight against the company and the authority figures.

The result was Punk was contested in a No Disqualification match against then time company favorite, Brock Lesnar. Punk’s former boss, Paul Heyman challenged him that he can never win against Lesnar. Punk was attacked by Lesnar, starting the feud which was settled at Summerslam.

The classic encounter between two of the most athletic wrestlers in the present era was something like a David vs. Goliath contest. Brock Lesnar used his brute strength as Punk used his speed and agility to counter attack the monster.

Heyman remains an important figure throughout the match distracting Punk at times from which Lesnar would take advantage of. The match was fast-paced, athletic and brutal with Lesnar defeating Punk with an F-5.

This match in the summer of 2013 had a great storyline and a dramatic ending to it. It was a match between the independent darling and the ‘face of WWE’. After months of being taunted by Vince McMahon that he was not the champion that he wanted to lead his company, WWE Champion John Cena handpicked Daniel Bryan for this great match.

This was the first opportunity for the bearded wonder to get a shot at his first WWE title championship and also to headline in a pay-per-view event. Cena went into the match having a torn biceps which was exposed badly, time and again by Daniel Bryan.

Yet, Cena competed equally with Bryan in what was termed as one of the gutsiest performances of the wrestler. In the end, Cena lost the match after facing a running knee to the face which started Daniel Bryan’s ignited run at the company. Bryan’s celebrations were cut short as special referee Triple H knocked him out before Randy Orton cashed in his Money in the Bank to win the WWE Championship.

The Hart brothers produced two perfect matches at the big stage, one at Wrestlemania X and the other at the Summerslam following August. With the Hart family watching from the first few rows in the ring, The Hitman defended his WWE Championship against the 1994 King of the Ring.

This fight became one of the cleanest fights in WWE. There was no error, no pause in the match as both wrestlers bore against each other with full strength. After an already amazing match, the Hart family saga finally comes out as Owen and his brother-in-law Jim Neidhart locks Bret on the stage. Their other brothers and brother-in-law Davey Smith comes to save Bret, thus making a remarkable ending to an already great match.
